Tarleton State Football receives 1st round bye as 4-seed in FCS Playoffs, to host 2nd round at Memorial Stadium December 6

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – The morning after Tarleton State Football put Memorial Stadium in a frenzy with a comeback conference championship clinching victory against Austin Peay, the Texans were named a 4-seed in the FCS Playoffs by the Division I Football Championship Committee.
 
During the FCS Playoff Selection Show on Sunday live on ESPNU, the 24-team playoff bracket was revealed, slotting Tarleton State as one of the eight teams to receive a bye in the first round. The Texans will host their second round game at Memorial Stadium in Stephenville on Saturday, December 6, at 12 p.m. CT.
 
Tickets are now available for the game, priced at $25 for reserved seating and $12 for north side general admission. Season ticket holders have first opportunity to claim their seats, simply needing to log into their accounts online or call 254-968-1832 to purchase. And for Tarleton State students, staff and faculty, tickets will be free. Staff and faculty can claim now, and students will get in free through the Corq app, like they have most of this season.  Staff and faculty need to call the Tarleton State Ticket Office at 254-968-1832 to claim their free tickets.

On December 6, the Texans will host the winner of the 13-seed Tennessee Tech and North Dakota. Also in Tarleton State's quarter of the bracket is the 5-seed Lehigh, the 12-seed Villanova, and Harvard. On the same half of the bracket is the 1-seed North Dakota State, the 8-seed UC Davis, the 9-seed Rhode Island, the 16-seed Southeastern Louisiana, Central Connecticut State and Illinois State.
 
The FCS Playoffs begin Nov. 29 with the first round. The top eight teams in the 24-team bracket for the championship receive first round byes. The second round between 16 teams is on Dec. 6, the quarterfinals on Dec. 12-13, the semifinals on Dec. 20, and the national championship game in Nashville on Jan. 5.
 
On the opposite side of the bracket is the 2-seed Montana State, the 3-seed Montana, the 6-seed Mercer, the 7-seed Stephen F. Austin, the 10-seed Abilene Christian, the 11-seed South Dakota, the 14-seed South Dakota State, the 15-seed Youngstown State, Drake, Lamar, New Hampshire and Yale.
 
Tarleton State is the highest seeded United Athletic Conference team, one of two UAC teams to make the 24-team field, alongside 10-seed ACU.
 
This marks back-to-back playoff appearances for Tarleton State, and their sixth playoff appearance in its NCAA era (2025, 2019, 2018, 2009, 2003, 2001), along with five bowl invitations.
 
The Texans finished the regular season 11-1 overall, 7-1 in United Athletic Conference play to win a share of the UAC championship, alongside ACU. They set a new record for wins in a season in their D1 era, surpassing the 10 last season. The Texans' 7-1 conference mark is also a new program D1 best.
