Tarleton State Track and Field heads to Spokane for 2025 WAC Indoor Track and Field Championships

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Tarleton State Track and Field travels to Spokane, Washington for the 2025 WAC Indoor Track and Field Championships at The Podium on Friday and Saturday.

The meet will start with the multis on Friday morning. The women's pentathlon champion will be crowned after the fifth event which starts at 3:30 pm CT. All field events on Friday are finals starting between 3:30 and 6:30 pm CT. Both the men's and women's long jump, pole vault and weight throw champions will be crowned on Friday night. The track events start at 5 pm CT with all events except the 5000 and the distance medley relay being preliminary heats. The 5000 and DMR will be the final two events of the night.
 
On Saturday, all events are finals. In all 23 individual champions will be crowned on both the men's and women's sides on Saturday as well as the team champions.
 
For the first time since joining the WAC in 2020, the Texan women's squad was ranked third in the pre-championship coaches' poll.
 
Last year, both Texan squads posted their best finish in program history at the WAC Indoor Championships. The men finished in sixth with the women tying for seventh. On the men's side, Gabriele Tosti took home gold in the triple jump. On the women's side, four school records were set. Hannah Cade broke the school record in the pole vault and earned silver with her final clearance of 3.85 meters.
 
This season has been a very historic two months for the Texans. In all, 14 school records have been broken and 56 top 10 performance bests have been reached by both the men's and women's squads.
 
Senior Lokesh Sathyanathan ranks fourth in the NCAA in the long jump. He set a new personal best and school record at the Don Kirby Elite Invitational with a best leap of 7.92 meters. Sir Jonathan Sims is 20th in the country with a best leap of 7.78 meters at the same event. The duo tops the WAC in the long jump this season. Also in the long jump group, Jordan Flores best jump of 7.20 meters helps the men's long jump rank within the top five in the nation.
 
Redshirt-freshman Victoria Cameron ranks fifth in the NCAA in the 60-meter dash with the new school and WAC all-time record. Her 7.14 second-mark in the event is tied for the 12th best in the world. Cameron appears destined to break the WAC Championships record in the 60, with five of her six times this year faster than the current record set in 2012 of 7.24 seconds.
 
In the triple jump, Gabriele Tosti ranks 16th in the NCAA and leads the WAC with a best vault of 15.98 meters. Sir Jonathan Sims ranks second in the WAC and 25th in the nation in the discipline with a best jump of 15.81 meters. As a group, the men's triple jump ranks third in the nation.
 
Freshman Malak Rashwan has been a standout for the Texans not only breaking two school records, but also the Egypt national record as well. Rashwan ran 8.51 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles at the Stan Scott Invite and Multis to break her school record in the event for the third time this season and break the Egyptian national record for the second time this year. She also posted the school record in the pentathlon at the same meet scoring 3,553 points. In the WAC, Rashwan ranks second in the pentathlon and third in the 60-meter hurdles.
 
Aidan Matthews set the school record in the 200 meters earlier this season. The former D3 All-American holds the fourth best time in the 200 in the WAC this season. Matthews also own the ninth best time in the 100 in the conference.
 
Morgan Lamberson also set a pair of school records during the regular season. The junior broke both the 800-meter and mile program records at the Jarvis Scott Invite last weekend. In the 800, she crossed in 2:11.84 nearly a whole second ahead of the previous record held by Jenna Brazeal. On the final day of the event, she broke one of the longest-standing school records shattering the indoor mile program record by seven seconds. She finished in 4:58.67 to set the new record previously held by Lindsey Hinton set in 2014. Lamberson has posted the third best time in the 800 in the conference this season.
 
Mason Hill owns the second-best mark in the shot put in school history and the fourth best in the WAC this season. Hill's best throw of 16.43 meters came at the Stan Scott Invite a few weeks ago. Hill also holds the 16th best throw in the weight throw from the first meet of the season.
 
Lauren Roy and Hanna Dudley set the new school record in 200 last week at the Don Kirby Elite Invitational. Dudley broke the record in the morning running 23.92 followed by Roy later in the afternoon. Roy's 23.92 performance touted her the fastest Ireland-born woman in the 200 this calendar year.
 
The Texan women have eight athletes that currently rank in the top three in the WAC in 11 events after the conclusion of the regular season. Three Texans own the best performance in their event in the regular season. Cameron leads the WAC in the 60-meters with all six of her times she ran this season faster than the rest of the athletes in the conference. Jourdaine Cerenil and Vanessa Rolan are tied for the best in the WAC in the high jump with a best height of 1.70 meters.
 
The men's squad ranked ninth in the South Central region and 49th in the NCAA in the most recent USTFCCA polls. USTFCCCA has the Texans ranked fourth in the WAC.
 
The women's squad ranked 23rd in the South Central region and 54th in the NCAA in the most recent USTFCCA polls. USTFCCCA also has the Texans ranked third in the WAC.
 
Head coach Bobby Carter is in his first season at the helm of the Texan program. Coach Carter previously served as an assistant coach for the University of Arizona. Carter was an elite athlete himself, starring in jump at Nebraska. During his time competing from 2009-14, he earned a pair of All-American honors.
 
Tarleton State will hope to send multiple athletes to the 2025 NCAA Indoor Championships at Virginia Beach, Va. on March 14-15.
