FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Tarleton State Men's Track and Field saw their historic season come to an end on the third day of the NCAA West First Rounds at John McDonnell Field, the women's team will end the week on Saturday in their final day.
The 2026 WAC Outdoor Men's Champions saw its season end on Friday night. The program-best seven athletes that competed were unable to punch a ticket to Oregon but still enjoyed a successful season. For the first time in the Division I era, the Texans won a WAC Championship and sent seven men to the NCAA West First Rounds.
Davi Torres started off the day placing in the top 25 in the men's high jump. Torres cleared the opening height of 2.07 meters on his first attempt advancing to the next bar. The junior narrowly missed a trio of his attempts at 2.12 and ultimately tied for 24
th overall.
JayBrion Jones placed 17
th overall in the 100 meters clocking in at 20.27 seconds. Jones finished his freshman campaign with a silver medal in the 100 meters at the WAC Championships and the only Texan men freshman to qualify for the NCAA West First Rounds.
Ca'terrin Cox had a heartbreaking end to his season falling for the first time in his decorated collegiate career. The reigning WAC Champion got up and finished his race but was disqualified for falling into a competitor's lane.
David Mvundura placed 22
nd in the 200 meters in 20.97 seconds in his final event of his collegiate career. Mvunudra was the WAC Performer of the Meet at the WAC Championships notching gold in the 200 meters and 4x100 meter relay and earning bronze in the 100.
Sir Jonathan Sims and
Johnathon Rodgers placed 32
nd and 34
th, respectively. Sims posted his best leap of 15.11 meters on his second attempt. Rodgers best leap also came on his second attempt with a mark of 15.07 meters.
The women will close out the NCAA West First Rounds on Saturday evening. The Texans won't hit the track until 5 pm in the women's 4x100 meter relay. The Texan women are racing in the first heat as the second-ranked team behind USC, who owns the top time in the NCAA this season. The Texans will also have two individual competing in the quarterfinals on the track as well. Cameron will be in the second heat in lane six of the 100 meters. She will be joined in the same heat as Roy who will be running in lane three slated to start at 6:35 pm. Roy will also be competing at 7:50 pm in the 200 meters. She is scheduled to compete in the second heat in lane five.
