Terp turned Texan, Runyan joins Tarleton State Softball for 2026

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Following a run to the WAC Tournament title game in the Texans' first season of postseason eligibility, head coach Mark Cumpian announced the signing of Madison Runyan on Saturday.
 
Runyan comes to Stephenville after three seasons in the northeast with the Maryland Terrapins.
 
The West, Texas, native, appeared in 121 games for the Terps starting 117 of them. Across her three seasons she batted .257 collecting 56 hits and scored 38 runs. She also hit 12 doubles, one triple and a solo shot out of the park. She also tallied 26 RBI while she walked 15 times and took 11 hit  by pitches. On the defensive side she collected 157 putouts and was credited with 171 assists.
 
Her junior season she started every game she appeared in (48) adding 30 hits and 22 runs to her collegiate total. With her 30 hits she gathered up 14 RBI. She hit two more doubles in her junior campaign compared to her freshman and sophomore year combined. She also hit her first collegiate triple and her first long ball. April 26, 2025, she went a perfect 3-for-3 vs. Penn State and grabbed an RBI as well. During her second year up north, the Lone Star State native started in every game she appeared in starting 49 games at second base. She had a season-high four RBI vs. Southeast Missouri State as she went 2-for-3. Runyan appeared in 24 games during her collegiate debut season as she started 20 of those games at second base. She batted .320 across her 24-game stretch and made her collegiate debut on Feb. 9, 2023, vs. then No. 18 Oregon. During her debut she earned her first hit vs. the Ducks along with snagging a pair of RBI.
 
Before she headed north to the Maryland, she was a multi-sport athlete competing in four different sports including her work on the diamond at West High School. She competed on varsity all four years on the softball field while doing the same on the hardwood as well. She also spent three years in the spikes running varsity track and spent a single season playing varsity volleyball.

Runyan intends to major in Kinesiology while attending Tarleton State.
