STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Following a run to the WAC Tournament title game in the Texans' first season of postseason eligibility, head coach Mark Cumpian announced the signing of Katherine Brunner on Tuesday.
 
Brunner comes to Stephenville after a pair of seasons with the Lobos of New Mexico.
 
The Katy, Texas, native, appeared in 94 games and started 78 across her two seasons in New Mexico. The collected just over 200 at bats turning in 42 hits, 15 runs and hit four out of the park. She was also credited with 61 total bases, seven doubles and 28 RBI. Brunner also walked 14 times and drew a pair of hit by pitches. On the defensive side of things, she is credited with 69 put outs and 76 assist to her name. She had a career high seven put outs her freshman season vs. Hawaii and then posted a career best seven assists vs. North Dakota. During her freshman campaign she was named the Mountain West Freshman of the Week for the week of April 22. Brunner also earned accolades like Academic All-Mountain West team and Mountain West scholar athlete.
 
Before she headed off to become a Lobo, the Katy High School slugger spent four years playing on the diamond for the varsity squad including two years as team captain. She played her entire high school career under the guidance of head coach Billie Powell. In 2023 and 2022 she was named first-team all-district infield and in 2021 was named second team. All four years of her high school career she was tabbed Academic All-District.
 
She didn't just compete on the diamond but also on the hardwood as well. Brunner spent two years playing varsity hoops and a single season on the varsity volleyball team.
 
Outside of her time at Katy High School she spent five seasons playing for the Bombers select team.
 
Brunner plans on majoring in Business Marketing while attending Tarleton State.
