Texan Men’s Basketball bolsters roster with West Georgia transfer JaVar Daniel

STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Tarleton State Men's basketball head coach Eric Haut announced West Georgia transfer JaVar Daniel will be bringing his talents to Stephenville for his senior season this fall.
 
Daniel becomes the seventh transfer in the first class for new head coach Haut. Daniel is the sixth transfer signee from a Division I program last season. He is also the fourth player to join the Texans after spending time at a pair of D1 schools. The incoming senior will be in his third school in his collegiate career, similar to four other Texan signees.

Daniel has been on the moved both in his prep and collegiate career. As a high schooler, he started at Arlington High School for two years, before heading to Bartlett High School for two years, He finished his prep days at We are United Prep. Since graduating high school, he has made two stops where he has played three collegiate seasons so far in his career. After leaving We are United Prep, he spent two seasons at Austin Peay. After spending two seasons with the Governors he spent his junior year at West Georgia.
 
"I chose Tarleton State because of the belief the coaching staff has in me and the role they've clearly laid out," said Daniel. "They see me as someone who can showcase my full skill set, and impact winning on both sides of the ball. I'm excited about the opportunity to continue developing, competing at a high level, and growing both as a player and as a person within their program."
 
Last season he played in 31 games while starting four at West Georgia. He averaged 7.6 points, 5.3 rebounds in 19.6 minutes per game. He led the Panthers with 48 blocks , ranked second in the ASUN and 39th in the NCAA. Daniel posted the fourth most blocks in Panthers single season history. He recorded at least four blocks in four games, including a season-high six against  Central Arkansas (1/22). He scored in double figures in 10 contests, leading to two double-doubles. He notched his first double-double of his collegiate career with 10 points and 11 boards against USC Upstate (11/25). He notched four consecutive starts in a row in the middle of the season, averaging 9.25 points per game during those four starts.
 
He started his collegiate career at Austin Peay. After joining the Governors at the halfway point of the season, he played in eight games while starting four. In his third collegiate game, he scored a season-high 15 points in his first collegiate start at Lipscomb (1/13). He played in a season-high 26 minutes and tallied five boards. He finished his freshman season averaging 3.0 points and 1.6 boards per contest. In his second year with the Govs, Daniel averaged 1.9 points and 2.1 boards in 7.8 minutes per game. Daniel appeared in 27 games while starting three. The sophomore led the team with 19 blocks. He scored a season-best eight points and grabbed a season high 11 boards on the road at Morehead State (11/20). He scored six points on a perfect, 3-for-3 day from the field at Queens (2/20). Daniel scored six points and dished a season-high three assists with a steal and a block in the ASUN Championship Quarterfinals at North Alabama (3/3).
 
Daniel played at three different schools during his prep days. He spent his first two years at Arlington High School. He helped lead the squad to back-to-back Division I District and Regional Championships. As a freshman he averaged 6.3 points and 4.3 rebounds a game before averaging 12.1 points, 9.1 rebounds, 2.0 steals, and 1.4 blocks per game as a sophomore. He spent his junior and senior seasons at Bartlett High School. After missing his junior season due to injury, he was selected to the 4A All-District First Team. He averaged 11.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game as a senior. He then spent his prep year at We are United. As a two-sport athlete at Arlington High School  he was the 2019 High Jump State Champion.
 
He is the son of Titania Jones and Andre Daniel. The Memphis, Tenn., native, has three siblings Camellia, Brianna, and Lamoris. His father, Andre, played college basketball at Coahoma Community College and LeMoyne-Owen College. He is planning to major in General Studies.
 
Tarleton State will continue to announce its roster signees and its 2026-27 schedule at a later date.
