COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho –
Jace Hulett achieved the second hole-in-one in Tarleton State's modern era, and
Nicholas Papacharalambous led the team in scoring in the Texans' trip to Idaho Monday-Tuesday.
Tarleton State finished 11th in its second tournament of the fall, playing in the CDA National Reserve Invitational, hosted by Eastern Washington at Coeur d'Alene National Reserve in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. The Texans improved their team score from +42 in the opening tournament to +21 in this event, placing higher than Idaho, Fresno State, Hawaii, UC Irvine and UC Riverside.
Playing as an individual for Tarleton State, newcomer Hulett had the best moment of the tournament on Monday in the first round, acing the No. 4 202-yard Par 3. It was the second hole-in-one in the Texans' modern era, and the longest one by 54 yards. Hulett opened with a -2 (70), the best round by any Texan at the tournament.
Papacharalambous led the team at +4 (75-71-74), finishing tied-24th. He had an eagle in the first round, then turned in a -1 effort in the second round with four birdies and three bogeys. That round was his best as a Texan, plus his +4 54-hole score was a tied-career-best at Tarleton State, joining his performance at Lamar's Golden Nugget Invitational this past March.
Kellen Young was tied-41st at +7 (71-74-78), carding seven birdies in his -1 opening round.
Noah Sandlin made his Tarleton State debut with a +8 (78-74-72), tied-47th.
Drew Ironside turned in at +11 (80-73-74) for tied-60th, and
Juan Ballester finished tied-67th at +12 (72-79-77).
St. Mary's won the tournament at -7, with Pacific a shot behind at -6. Boise State took third at +7, San Francisco fourth at +8, Sacramento State fifth at +9, Seattle U sixth at +11, Washington State seventh at +12, Eastern Washington eighth at +13, Oregon State tied-ninth at +18, North Dakota tied-ninth at +18, Tarleton State 11th at +21, Idaho 12th at +27, Fresno State tied-13th at +32, Hawaii tied-13th at +32, UC Irvine 15th at +41 and UC Riverside 16th at +53.
Oregon State's Davis Hartwell was the medalist at -8 (70-66-72), winning by a stroke.
Tarleton State will be right back into tournament action on Sunday-Tuesday at LA Tech's Argent Financial Classic at Squire Creek Country Club in Choudrant, Louisiana.
