Midwestern State 3, Tarleton 0
STEPHENVILLE - The Tarleton volleyball team fell 3-0 to Midwestern State in a Lone Star Conference match at Wisdom Gym in Stephenville on Thursday.
The TexAnns, who fall to 7-15 overall and 2-3 in the LSC, were unable to handle a Mustang offense that recorded 50 kills and hit .342 as a team on the evening. The Mustangs improved to 8-16 overall and remain undefeated in LSC play with a 4-0 record.
Tarleton opened the match with a great start following a couple of kills from
Rachel Wolf and Erin Lynn that gave the TexAnns an early 4-1 lead.
Margaret Luedecke's service ace later in the set put the TexAnns on top 9-4, but a 6-0 run by the Mustangs gave MSU a lead (10-9) it would never give back. MSU won the set 25-20 thanks in large part to the Mustangs' 17 kills on .341 hitting.
The TexAnns took a 2-1 lead early in the second set with a pair of kills from Lynn and
Catherine Cutbirth, but MSU went on another run, stringing together five straight points to take a 6-2 lead. Tarleton fell behind by as many as seven points midway through the set and eventually dropped the set 25-18.
The Mustangs opened what would prove to be the final set of the match with a 10-2 run and never looked back. The TexAnns fell behind 17-4 and was never able to amount a comeback, falling 25-13.
Lynn and
Shay Gracy led the TexAnns with seven kills match, but MSU's Hillary White (10), Karolina Damjanovic (10) and Miranda Byrd (13) posted double-digit kills on their way to the win.
Jessie Hartman recorded a match-high 30 assists and 10 digs on the evening for her third double-double of the season. MSU's Byrd tallied a double-double as well, posting a team-high 17 digs to go along with her 13 kills.
The TexAnns will continue LSC play this weekend as the team takes on Cameron this Saturday, Oct. 10. First service is set for 2 p.m. at Wisdom Gym.
