TexAnns cruise to 75-46 win over Pittsburg State in Denton

DENTON - Brittnie Haley scored a game-high 20 points and pulled down 10 rebounds on the evening to record her second straight double-double on he season, while leading the TexAnns to a 75-46 win over Pittsburg State at the 2009 DFW Marriott Champions Circle Pioneer Premeire in Denton on Friday.

JoAnne Jones added 10 points and eight rebounds as well and the TexAnn defense held the PSU offense to just .292 shooting from the field in the victory.  Sonya Sundberg and Shelby Adamson each scored in double figures also to give the TexAnns four players with double-digit efforts in consecutive games.

PSU took a quick 2-0 lead on DePrice Taylor's jumper, but Tarleton countered with a 13-point run to take an early 11-point lead.  The TexAnns never looked back despite the Gorillas cutting the lead to just four points (20-16) with 9:51 left to play in the first-half. 

Haley hit a jumper with 5:16 left before the intermission to give the TexAnns a 35-20 lead as the TexAnns headed to the locker room with a 41-28 lead.

PSU's Amanda Orloske hit a jumper with 8:56 left to play to make it a 56-44 game, but Tarleton scored 19 of the game's next 21 points and cruised to the victory.

PSU came into the game having just defeated the No. 12 team in the nation, Central Oklahoma, earlier in the week.

"This was a big win for us against a quality team," Tarleton head coach Ronnie Hearne said.  "Brittinie played extremely well and she makes a big difference to this team with her and JoAnne both in the game down low."

The TexAnns shot .453 from the field while goind 6-for-11 (.545) from beyond the arc.  Tarleton missed just four shots from the free-throw line, finishing the game 11-for-15 from the charity stripe. 

PSU did out-rebound the TexAnns, 46 to 41, and poured in 18 second chance points to Tarleton's nine points, but the TexAnns transition offense countered the Gorillas' attack and were able to come away with 19 points off 23 of PSU's turnovers.

Tarleton moved to 2-0 on the young season and will face Western New Mexico at 2 p.m. tomorrow.  PSU fell to 1-1 following the loss.

Tip-off on Saturday is set for 2 p.m. at Kitty McGee Arena in Denton.
