STEPHENVILLE - The Tarleton TexAnn tennis team won their first match of the 2009 season, downing Temple College 7-2 on Tuesday at the Tarleton Tennis Courts in Stephenville.
In singles action,
Adriana Jaskova,
Carole Julen,
Jade Charlot and
Evgeniya Prokofeva each won in straight sets to give Tarleton a 4-0 lead. Losses from
Rocio Cabanillas and
Mariana Freitas made it a 4-2 match still in favor of the TexAnns.
Cabanillas and Feitas overcame their losses in singles play and doubled up to defeat Ashlea Baker and Raven Lewis (8-4) while Jaskova and Julen teamed up to defeat Reese Hall and Jessica Phelps (8-4). Prokofeva and Charlot then paired up to defeat Amaril Armete and Kristen Baker (8-1) to give the TexAnns a 7-2 victory and their first win of the season.
Tarleton will return to action this weekend as the team travels to Las Cruces, N.M. to participate in the Miner Fall Invite. Play will begin on Friday, Sept. 18 at noon.
