STEPHENVILLE – The Tarleton volleyball team won a back-and-forth contest with the Javelinas of A&M-Kingsville Thursday night in Wisdom Gym, 3-1.
The TexAnns dropped the first set 28-26 in heartbreaking fashion, before taking the next two sets at a flurried pace, 25-18 and 25-9. Then trailing 18-12, Tarleton went on a 13-4 tear to win the match and maintain their undefeated record at home.
Tarleton pushes their record to 16-7, with a 3-4 conference mark. The Javelinas fall to 9-10 on the season, going 4-4 in the Lone Star Conference.
Flynn Harrell and Irelis Ilarraza led a punishing TexAnn attack, each collecting 13 kills. Danielle Barker had a 23-assist, 13-dig night, while Jessie Hartman added 17 assists and 11 digs.
Shea McBrearty headed the Tarleton defense once again, recording 27 digs in the match, with Catherine Cutbirth contributing 5 assisted blocks.
A&M-Kingsville hit just a .122 percentage compared to Tarleton's .226, and failed to gain momentum after winning the first set.
The Javelinas were led offensively by Lauryn Lozano, who recorded 12 kills, while Amanda Yeager provided 24 assists. Virginia Hernandez anchored the defense with 26 digs.
The TexAnns will look to maintain their undefeated home record when the host LSC newcomers Incarnate Word Saturday, Oct. 16 at 2 p.m. in Wisdom Gym. It will be Autograph and Camp Day as the TexAnns hope to welcome their fans with another Tarleton victory.
