Tarleton volleyball hosts Eastern New Mexico in final home game of season

STEPHENVILLE – The TexAnns will welcome the Zias Saturday at 2 p.m. in Wisdom Gym South for the last home game of the 2010 campaign for Tarleton.

With a 20-8 record, and a 6-5 conference mark, the TexAnns need a win Saturday to move one step towards a spot in the Lone Star Conference tournament.

On the season, Tarleton is hitting a .210 attack percentage, while averaging 13 kills per game, 11.9 assists per game and 15 digs per game.

After recording 13 blocks in their last game against West Texas A&M, the TexAnn defense is hitting its stride at an important part of the season. Monica Hamel leads the way with 72 blocks, with Catherine Cutbirth adding 68 blocks of her own. Shea McBrearty has a team-high 424 digs, while Jessie Hartman has contributed 204 digs.

The offense is also on a roll of late, with Rachel Wolf collecting 299 kills, Flynn Harrell providing 236 kills, and Irelis Ilarraza adding 214 kills. Hartman is the main catalyst on offense with 643 assists, while Danielle Barker is second with 383 assists.

Eastern New Mexico has struggled at times this season with a 12-13 record, but is still in the postseason hunt after going 4-7 in conference play. They are hitting just .178 offensively, averaging 12.3 kills per game, 11 assists per game and 14.1 digs per game.

Kristen Beck leads the Zias with 248 kills, while Amber Durand has added 240 kills and Jessica King has added 232 kills. Veronica Valdez-Kent is the lone assist-threat, setting up her teammates 848 times this season.

The Eastern New Mexico defense is anchored by Jessica King, who has recorded 61 blocks, and Stacey Main, who has recorded 53 blocks. Dallas Russell leads the squad with 356 digs, while Durand has contributed 277 digs.

Saturday is Senior Day for the TexAnns with seniors Shea McBrearty, Rachel Wolf, Catherine Cutbirth, and Margaret Luedecke being honored before the match. It will also be Trick or Treat Day with the fan wearing the best Halloween costume receiving a prize between games.
