COMMERCE – The Tarleton volleyball squad lost in five games to the Lions of A&M-Commerce. The TexAnns lost the first two games 23-25 and 21-25, before winning the next two sets 25-13 and 25-15. Commerce went on to win the tie-breaking fifth set 15-11.
Tarleton (14-7) hit just a .199 attack percentage as a team. Rachel Wolf led the offense with 14 kills, while Irelis Ilarraza hit 11 kills and Flynn Harrell added 10 kills. Jessie Hartman contributed 20 assists for the TexAnn offense. Danielle Barker had a productive day in a number of categories, assisting 14 times, hitting a .429 percentage, and collecting 10 digs.
Wolf also had a team-high 16 digs, while Shea McBrearty and Jessie Hartman both had 11 digs. Catherine Cutbirth, Monica Hamel, and Breawn Waynes each recorded three assisted blocks for Tarleton.
Commerce (7-10) pulled off the win despite hitting a .110 percentage. Rachel Robertson anchored the Lions with 16 kills, while Naomi Mays and Terra Ousley both collected 10 kills. Jordan Robertson had 39 of Commerce's 46 assists.
The Lion defense was captained by Morgan Moeller, who had 21 digs, and Reagan Hayes, who had 14 digs.
The TexAnns end their road trip and will host their next match at Wisdom Gym Monday, Oct. 11 versus Texas College.
