TexAnns end skid with 3-1 win over Eastern New Mexico

PORTALES, N.M. – Tarleton State (14-11, 8-5) set the tone early against Eastern New Mexico (5-19, 1-14) with three straight kills to open the match en route to a 3-1 win.
This win ended a three-game losing streak by the TexAnns.
Katie Covell, Nikki McNorton and Stacie Murrah opened the match with three straight kills as Tarleton began the first set with a quick 5-0 strike.
Eastern New Mexico answered with a 12-7 push to tie the score at 12-12 before three straight Zia errors and kills by Flynn Harrell and Murrah extended the Tarleton lead to 17-13.
Tarleton continued to pour it on with an 8-2 run to claim the first set 25-15.
The TexAnns struck first, again, in game two with a 4-1 push.
Eastern New Mexico used a 5-0 run and two 6-1 runs to claim a set two victory 25-22 and knot the match 1-1.
The TexAnns responded by exploding in the third set to a 16-7 lead on the strength of seven ENMU errors and kills by Murrah, McNorton, Ashley Rine, Tiana Bond and Jessie Hartman.
Eastern answered with a 13-8 run to cut the deficit to four at 24-20 but McNorton landed her fourth kill of the set to seal the win.
The Zias kept the fourth set close, as Tarleton kept a lead throughout the set but Eastern did get the score to 20-19.
Tarleton wasted no more time on the match as Covell and Murrah landed kills and Eastern committed three errors to propel the TexAnns to victory.
McNorton led the TexAnns with 14 kills while Murrah also cracked double figures with 10.
Audra Vaello landed eight kills, but landed the highest percentage (.538) of the team by only committing one error.
Emily Klein led the team in digs with 28 while Covell (13) and Hartman (10) also had double-figure digs.
Tarleton will stay on the road through the weekend, traveling to Canyon Saturday for a bout with West Texas A&M. The TexAnns defeated West Texas A&M in Stephenville Sept. 17 ending an 89-game losing streak to the Lady Buffs.
