TexAnns return to LSC action this week

STEPHENVILLE - Tarleton (11-7, 5-1) is set to return to Lone Star Conference action this week after a weekend hiatus in Topeka, Kans., where the TexAnns went 2-2.

The TexAnns will open play Tuesday night in Denton against Texas Woman's (5-11, 3-4). In their only match last season, Texas Woman's won in Denton, 3-2.

This season the Lady Pioneers are led in kills by Chloe Tate with 184 through 16 matches, but Viktoria Jablonska is leading the team in kill percentage at 28 percent.

TexAnn Stacie Murrah returns to Tarleton as the leading hitter from last year's contest between these two teams, landing 10 kills in last year's five-set marathon.

In Thursday's match, the TexAnns return home for the first time since Sept. 17 to host Texas A&M-Kingsville (7-6, 3-6).

The last time a road team won the match in this series was Sept. 30, 2006 when Tarleton swept the Javelinas in Kingsville. The TexAnns won both matches against TAMUK that season.

Kingsville is led by Kelsey Washington with 153 kills in 2011 while Lauren Lozano has also cracked the century plateau with 115.

In the final match of the week, Saturday at Tarleton's Wisdom Gym at 2 p.m., the TexAnns host Incarnate Word (9-7, 5-4). The Lady Cards, as of Monday, have won four straight matches and five of their last six.

Incarnate Word sophomore Danielle Suarez enters the week with 271 sets on the season and has been named LSC Setter of the Week for the past two weeks.

Tarleton is currently led in kills by Flynn Harrell (117) by a wide margin, while the next highest kill leader is Nikki McNorton with 76. McNorton also leads the TexAnns with 103 blocks (28 solo, 75 assists) and was named to her third all-tournament team of the season last weekend at the Washburn Classic.

Jessie Hartman (472) and Danielle Barker (302) are the main assist-providers while Harrell and Hartman lead the team in digs with 196 and 188, respectively.
