STEPHENVILLE - Tarleton State seniors Jessie Hartman and Breawn Waynes certainly had a day to remember.
After being named LSC co-detter and co-defensive player of the week, Hartman and Waynes were honored for their Tarleton careers prior to Tarleton's match with Texas A&M-Commerce.
Then the TexAnn tandem helped lead five-set thrilling victory in their final match in Wisdom Gym.
Tarleton State (17-13, 11-7) rallied from behind to earn its third straight victory, this one in five sets over the Lions (10-16, 5-13).
This match mathematically eliminated Texas A&M-Commerce from postseason contention.
Tarleton jumped out to a quick 8-3 lead before six TexAnn errors allowed Commerce to make a 10-2 run and lead 13-10.
The TexAnns rallied to tie the set 16-16 but the Lions scored 9 of the next 16 points to claim a set one upset, 25-23.
In the second set, Tarleton dominated early to lead 14-8. A quick 4-0 run would allow them to extend their lead to 18-10.
TAMUC was able to put seven more on the board but it was to no avail as Tarleton claimed the 25-17 win.
In the third set, the teams stayed tied over the first 14 points before a 6-0 run allowed TAMUC to lead 13-8.
The Lions led by as many as five but a 6-2 Tarleton run allowed the TexAnns to get within one at 20-21. The teams traded the next six points before Tarleton sent the set tying kill shot too far and giving the Lions a 2-1 advantage.
In the fourth set, Commerce appeared primed to take the game with an early 14-13 lead but a kill by Waynes tied the score at 14-14 and started an 8-3 Tarleton run.
After two TAMUC points, Tarleton claimed the set on kills by Nikki McNortonn and Katie Covell as well as an ace by Hartman.
Tarleton dominated the final set with a 10-4 run (in the first to 15 set) but the Lions didn't go away by answering with a 6-0 run to tie it 10-10.
TAMUC scored four of the next seven to lead 14-13 but three straight kills by Flynn Harrell sealed the match for Tarleton.
McNorton led the team with 21 kills - marking her seventh straight game of double digit kills - while Harrell landed 17 kills with a hit percentage of .394 - a team high among player with at least five attacks.
Hartman tallied 31 assists in her final home game with Barker added 14. Emily Klein and Katie Covell led the TexAnns in digs with 11 each.
Tarleton will hit the road for the final two games, beginning with Texas A&M-Kingsville Thursday at 7 p.m.
