STEPHENVILLE - The Tarleton women's volleyball team will look to build off last Saturday's upset of No. 13 West Texas A&M this week when they travel to Texas A&M-Commerce, Cameron and Midwestern State.
On Tuesday, Sept. 20, the TexAnns will face Texas A&M-Commerce at 7 p.m. in Commerce. They follow that up on Thursday, Sept. 22 when they travel to Lawton, Okla. to face Cameron at 7 p.m. Tarleton will wrap up the week Saturday, Sept. 24 in Wichita Falls against Midwestern St.
Tarleton is 6-5 on the season ad 2-1 in Lone Star Conference action. Earlier in the season, the TexAnns fell to Angelo State and defeated Eastern New Mexico, but most recently ended No. 13 West Texas A&M's 87-game LSC winning streak with a 3-2 victory.
As a team, Tarleton is hitting a .166 attack percentage compared to opponents' .122 mark. The TexAnns are averaging 12.1 kills, 11.4 assists and 14.7 digs per match. They are also out-blocking opponents 127 blocks to 80.5 blocks.
Flynn Harrell leads the offense with 156 kills, while
Nikki McNorton is close behind with 122 kills. McNorton also leads the team with 69 blocks, averaging 1.44 blocks per set.
Jessie Hartman has added to her school-record career total with 284 assists this season, with
Danielle Barker contributing 184 more.
Lacy Hodges has a team-high 135 digs, followed by Harrell with 120 digs and Hartman with 116 digs.
Tarleton's first LSC opponent this week is Texas A&M-Commerce, who is 2-5 on the year and 1-4 in the conference. The Lions are hitting a .143 percentage and average 10.9 kills, 10.3 assists and 13.7 digs per set. TAMUC is coming off a pair of 3-1 loss to No. 20 Angelo State and Abilene Christian.
Next up will be Cameron, who is 4-3 this season and 3-2 in LSC play. The Aggies are hitting a strong .248 percentage offensively and average 12.6 kills, 11.7 assists and 14.9 digs per set. Most recently, Cameron defeated Incarnate Word 3-1 on the road.
The final match of the week for the TexAnns will be against Midwestern State in Wichita Falls. The Mustangs are 6-4 this season and 2-3 in the conference. As a team, MSU is hitting a .191 percentage and averaging 12.6 kills, 12.0 assists and 17.8 digs per set. The Mustangs are currently on a three-game LSC slide, dropping matches to Texas Woman's, Incarnate Word and Texas A&M-Kingsville.
