SAN ANTONIO – A pair of TexAnns etched their names into the Tarleton history books Saturday in a four-set loss to Incarnate Word (9-18, 6-11) as Tarleton (20-8, 13-5) drops its third straight.

With 18 digs on the day, Emily Klein set the Tarleton single-season record for digs in a season (516), passing former teammate Shea McBrearty's 2009 mark of 514. She now has 969 digs for her career and is 84 shy of passing Lacey Adkisson for fifth place on the all-time career digs list.

Danielle Barker also moved up in the TexAnn record books by recording a double-double with 44 assists and 13 digs. The junior setter passed Didi Ebert for fifth-place on the single-season assist list and became the fifth TexAnn in school history with 1,000 assists in a season.

In the opening set, both teams came out swinging and kept the game tied through the 12-12 mark.

Incarnate Word struck for a quick 3-1 push at that point, but the TexAnns answered with a 4-0 run of their own – on two kills by Meg Umbel, one from Barker and a block from Barker and Umbel – to regain the lead 17-15 and force a UIW timeout.

After the teams traded the next two points, Incarnate Word put together a 4-0 run of its own to lead 20-18. Tarleton knotted the game at 20-20 with a kill and a block by Nikki McNorton.

The block would be the last point Tarleton scored as UIW scored five unanswered points on three kills and two TexAnn errors to claim the set 25-20.

In the second set, Tarleton rode a massive 9-0 run – served by Kaylea Beck – to a lopsided victory to even the match at 1-1.

After the teams opened the second game by staying even at 7-7, the Cardinals jumped out to a 12-8 lead. Three points later with UIW leading 13-10, kills by McNorton, Umbel, Beck and Stacie Murrah gave Tarleton the lead at 14-13 and forced a UIW timeout.

UIW responded by tying the game at 16-16, but Umbel landed a kill to give the TexAnns the last lead they would need.

Beck took over the serve at 17-16 and closed out the game with eight straight points on five UIW errors, a Jazmine Green kill and a service ace that sealed the deal at 25-16.

In the third set, Tarleton maintained a slim lead to lead 13-11, but UIW struck for a 6-1 run to take the lead 17-14 and forcing the TexAnns into a timeout.

TexAnn kills by Murrah and Beck, as well as a block by Umbel, brought Tarleton back within one at 17-18, but UIW responded with three straight to pull away. Tarleton was unable to get any closer than three points the rest of the way.

In the fourth and final set, Tarleton appeared primed to force a fifth game but, with the TexAnns leading 12-6, the Cardinals put together a 6-0 run to knot the score at 12-12.

At 14-14, UIW pulled away with four straight points to lead 18-14. Tarleton pulled within three on three different occasions but couldn't get any closer as UIW went on two win 25-21.

McNorton also moved up the Tarleton single-season block list by adding six total blocks to her ledger Saturday.

Murrah led the team with 16 kills and a .394 hitting percentage while Green also cracked double figures with 11. Kelsey Raglin also recorded double figures in digs with 12.

Tarleton will return to action Friday at 7 p.m. in Denton against Texas Woman's.
