Box Score LAWTON, Okla. – Tarleton State edged out a win in their annual trip to Lawton, Oklahoma Saturday afternoon, sneaking by Cameron in five sets following a 16-14 victory in the fifth.
In the opening set, the Aggies jumped out to a 14-9 lead and eventually stretched it to 16-14 before Tarleton struck.
Jasmyne Brown landed a kill shot for the first of three straight points to even the set.
The Aggies retook the lead and went all the way up to 23-19 but
Stacie Murrah ended the run with a kill to start a 6-1 TexAnn run down the stretch to secure the first set 26-24.
Tarleton fell behind early in the second set and eventually trailed by as much as 24-16, but Tarleton continued to fight as the TexAnns ended the set with two kills by Murrah and two from
Katie Covell. The TexAnns pulled to 24-20 but dropped the set with a service error.
The TexAnns took their momentum from late in set two and carried it into the third set, taking an early lead and extending it to 23-17. The Aggies scored six straight to even the score at 23-23 before Murrah ended the set with back-to-back kills.
Cameron evened the match in the fourth set by taking control from the get-go and rolling through the match to a 25-17 win and forcing a fifth set.
In the final set, Tarleton fell behind 3-5 before Covell landed a kill and then served up four straight points to give Tarleton an 8-5 lead. They extended the lead to 11-7.
Cameron went on a 7-3 run to tie the score at 14-14 but back-to-back errors by the Aggies gave the match to Tarleton.
Stacie Murrah was three kills shy of tying her career high, finishing with 23 kills and a hitting percentage of .348. Covell (14),
Jazmine Green (11) and
Kaitlyn White (10) also cracked double figures in kills.
Emily Klein had a career high with 35 digs, topping her previous best of 34 which she has done twice.
Danielle Barker had a double-double with 10 digs and 62 assists, falling one assist shy of tying her career high she set earlier this season. Covell also had a double-double with 14 kills and 16 digs.
Tarleton stays out on the road for a Tuesday night game in Denton against Texas Woman's.
