Box Score COMMERCE – Tarleton's woes continued Tuesday night as the TexAnns dropped their third consecutive game in four sets to Texas A&M-Commerce at The Fieldhouse.
Attack errors continue to haunt the TexAnns during this tough stretch as a 20-error night Tuesday brings the total to 70 attack errors over the past three matches.
Tarleton began play by taking an early 6-4 lead over the Lions but immediately surrendered the lead with an 11-5 Lion run to trail 15-11. The TexAnns pulled within two on several occasions but could inch no closer before Commerce ended the set with four straight points to take the advantage.
In the second set, Tarleton appeared headed for disaster as Commerce built a 23-16 lead over the TexAnns, but a
Jasmyne Brown kill started a 7-1 TexAnn run down the stretch to bring Tarleton within 23-24.
Commerce landed the set-winning kill, but the momentum was enough for Tarleton heading into the third set.
The TexAnns battled in the third set and worked up a 15-12 lead midway through the set. Tarleton maintained its slim lead through 18-16 before a
Jazmine Green kill started a 7-3 run down the stretch to give Tarleton its first victorious set since finishing off a sweep against Texas A&M-Kingsville on Nov. 2.
In the fourth set, the teams battled through numerous ties with Tarleton taking just one lead at 7-6 before the Lions retook the lead and extended it to 15-10.
A Lion error brough the score to 15-11 and started a 9-4 Tarleton run to even the score at 19-19. Commerce, however, broke the tie with a 5-0 run to set up match point at 24-19.
Tarleton battled with four straight points on a kill by
Stacie Murrah, service ace by
Kelsey Raglin, a block by
Katie Covell and
Meg Umbel and a Lion error, but Commerce sealed the match with kill to bring the final score to 25-23.
Murrah led the team with 14 kills while Raglin recorded her second double-double of the season with 11 kills and 24 digs – which both tie her career highs. Raglin also led the team with a .306 hitting percentage by committing no errors.
Danielle Barker led the team with 38 assists while
Emily Klein (22),
Katie Covell (14) and
Lacy Hodges (10) cracked double-figures in digs behind the game-leader Raglin.
Tarleton returns home for the regular season finale Saturday at noon in Wisdom Gym against Angelo State. It will be senior day and Tarleton will recognize seniors
Jazmine Green, Murrah, Barker and Klein.
