Green's career night sparks Tarleton comeback in LSC opener

Senior hitter lands 14 kills as TexAnns come from down a set to beat Cameron in four

Jazmine Green had a career-high 14 kills to spark a Tarleton comeback in the LSC opener against Cameron Friday night.
Box Score STEPHENVILLE – Led by three players with double-figure kills, including a career-high 14 from Jazmine Green, Tarleton rallied from a first-set loss to defeat Cameron 3-1 in the Lone Star Conference opener Tuesday night.

After falling behind 4-1 to open the first set, Tarleton clawed back to take a 7-6 lead before ultimately surrendering the first set. Cameron responded with a 13-8 run to take a 19-14 lead down the stretch before ultimately winning the opening set 25-20.

The second set began with the teams splitting the first four points before Katie Covell served up six straight points. Of the six straight, Stacie Murrah and Green each had a kill and combined for a block to go along with a Covell ace and two Cameron errors that put the TexAnns up 8-2.

Tarleton pushed its lead to as many as 12 and Cameron eventually cut the deficit to just five at 24-19 but an Aggie error sealed the game two win for Tarleton.

The TexAnns started strong again in the third set, building a 10-4 lead out of the gate but Cameron came back to make it a four-point match at 16-12. Green stopped the Aggie run with a kill that started a 5-2 run for Tarleton and push the lead to 21-14.

The Aggies made it 23-18 but Tarleton ended the game with an Aggie error and a game-clinching service ace by Kaylea Beck to take a 2-1 match advantage.

Tarleton dominated the final set from the get-go. The TexAnns never trailed and the Aggies never tied the score after the opening 0-0 tie went to Tarleton's side. The TexAnns went on to roll to a 25-18 victory.

Green's 14 kills led the TexAnns while Murrah and Katie Covell each landed 12 kills each. Green also led the team in hitting percentage with .370.

Danielle Barker led the team with 43 assists while Covell's 17 digs were a team-high and enough for her third double-double of the season. Emily Klein had 14 digs.

The TexAnns will return to action Saturday afternoon with a 2 p.m. match against Midwestern State in Wisdom Gym.
