TexAnns swept by Eastern New Mexico Saturday night in Portales

Box Score PORTALES, NM – Tarleton State was swept for the second straight match Saturday night when the TexAnns fell in straight sets to Eastern New Mexico at Greyhound Arena.

This is third time since 2010 that Tarleton State has been swept in back-to-back sets and the second consecutive season for it to happen on the Canyon-Portales road trip. It is also the first time Tarleton has lost consecutive games to the Zias in the series in Mary Schindler's coaching tenure.

The TexAnns and Zias were locked in a battle through the first 28 points to the tune of a 14-14 tie, but a bad set by Tarleton on the next point gave Eastern New Mexico a 15-14 and started an 11-1 Zia run to give ENMU the set-one win 25-15.

Despite jumping out to a quick 3-0 lead, Tarleton had to play from behind for most of the set after an 8-1 run by the Zias gave Eastern New Mexico an 8-4 advantage.

Tarleton clawed back to even at 21-21 but a Zia kill gave the momentum back to Eastern New Mexico and started a 4-2 push down the stretch to give the set to the Eastern New Mexico.

Another run from the Zias – 6-0 to turn a 6-6 tie into a 12-6 Zia lead – proved to be too much for the TexAnns as Eastern New Mexico went on to take the set 25-16 and the match 3-0.

As a team, Tarleton hit just .089 and committed 22 attack errors. Tarleton also had 13 additional unforced errors in serving, service receiving and blocking to tally 35 total errors in the match.

Hailey Roberts led the team with eight kills while Jasmyne Brown added six. Emily Medlin led the team with 13 assists while Roberts and Katie Covell had a team-high six digs each.

Tarleton State will return to action at Wisdom Gym Friday at 6 p.m. when the TexAnns host Angelo State.
