Edem, Rathke earn All-American honors on final day at NCAA Championships

Euphemia Edem and Chase Rathke wrapped up the final day of competition at the NCAA championships with a pair of All-American honors

BIRMINGHAM, ALA. – Chase Rathke and Euphemia Edem wrapped up the indoor  track and field season with a pair of All-American honors Saturday night at the NCAA championships.

"I am very pleased with the performances of both Euphemia (Edem) and Chase (Rathke)," said Tarleton head coach Pat Ponder. "Anytime you can leave the NCAA championships with two All-Americans it's a good day. Both of these student-athletes have put in hours of hard work and sacrifice just to have the opportunity they had today and I couldn't be more happy about the way they got out there and represented themselves and Tarleton State University."

Edem - who earned All-American honors yesterday in the long jump - would return to the runway once again, this time in the triple jump.

Sitting in eighth-place after four attempts, the senior used her final jump to secure fifth-place and earn All-American honors in the triple jump.

Edem erased her own school record in the process finishing with a jump of 40'-11" - breaking the old school record (40'-0") by almost a foot.

In her only year as a TexAnn, Edem finished her indoor career with two school records and two All-American honors, the single-best individual season of an indoor track and field athlete in Tarleton's NCAA indoor history.

In the final appearance for Tarleton track and field in the 2015 indoor season it was Chase Rathke on the track for the finals of the one-mile run.

Rathke qualified for Saturday's final by winning his preliminary heat Friday needing only 4:13.11 to go the distance.

The junior distance runner improved his time in the finals recording a 4:10.34 to bring home a bronze medal.

This is the second bronze medal for Rathke who finished third in last years NCAA indoor meet in the 800m during Tarleton's inaugural year of NCAA indoor track.

"Great way to closeout the indoor season," added Ponder.

Rathke, Edem and the rest of the Tarleton track and field teams will travel to Commerce to compete in the Texas A&M-Commerce Dual meet Saturday March 21st
