- FULL RESULTS COMMERCE – In a day that saw thunderstorms and lightning flashes throughout the metroplex, Tarleton flashed its ability on the track finishing the day with three new school records and 46 season-best performances.
"I thought we had a very good meet," said head coach
Pat Ponder. "Both teams are starting to peak at just about the right time as the Lone Star Conference championships are just a few weeks away."
Brianna Johnson started things for Tarleton in the hammer throw, setting a new school record at 47.34m (155-3) in a third-place finish. Johnson, a junior from Giddings, Texas, erased her own record of 153-4 set last year.
The second school record to fall Saturday would be All-American
Euphemia Edem in the long jump. Edem continued to erase records as she has all season, finishing the meet with a best jump of 6.43m (21-1.25), currently ranked as the No. 1 jump in the nation this season. Edem's mark also broke the stadium record previously held by Lindsay Welch of Abilene Christian of 6.32m (20-9) set back in 1996.
Continuing the trend of breaking school records, Tarleton would break a third school record in the very first race of the day.
The foursome of
Deylinn Garrett,
Euphemia Edem,
Robbie Clarke and
DeAijha Hicks-Boyce would carry the baton the distance faster than any other 4x100m relay in Tarleton State history (46.41, No. 12 in Division II), eclipsing the mark of 46.65 set by Kandis Brooks, Courtney Pleasant, Chelsey Bradford and Danielle Youngblood set back in 2007.
Tarleton would finish the meet with 6 event wins over the course of the meet and recorded six NCAA provisional marks.
Tarleton will compete in the Rice Twilight in Houston, TX April 25 from Holloway Field And Ley Track.
