FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Tarleton's spring break tour through Florida got off to a rocky start Saturday afternoon with a 6-3 loss to No. 15 Nova Southeastern.
Nova Southeastern took the advantage after doubles action with wins in the No. 1 and No. 2 matches by identical 8-1 scores, but Tarleton's
Alicia Barbaroux and
Luiza Ferraro-Adas came out on top of the No. 3 match 8-6 to send things to singles action with Tarleton trailing 2-1.
In singles action, Nova Southeastern won the first three singles matches to secure the victory but that didn't keep the TexAnns from batting as
Ashleigh Elward earned a win in the No. 4 match by overcoming a first-set loss. The junior from Australia rallied from a 4-6 loss in the first set by winning the second set 6-1 and the tiebreaker 10-8.
Meanwhile,
Tori Simmons followed suit with a comeback singles win in the No. 5 match. The freshman from Plano bounced back from a 2-6 loss in her opening set to win the next one 6-4 and the tiebreaker 10-7.
