EDMOND, Okla. – Tarleton met Southern Nazarene at the Kicking Bird Tennis Center and took care of business to the tune of a 7-2 match win Thursday afternoon.
"We had to overcome some tough conditions starting out. It was cloudy, windy, and cold, but we overcame the conditions and worked out a win," said head coach
Lance Drake. "It was good to see us sweep doubles and our No. 3-6 singles pulled us through to the win."
Tarleton jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles play with a dominant performance.
Erika Johnston and
Ashleigh Elward handled the No. 3 match in an 8-0 sweep while
Elena Preadca and
Luiza Ferraro-Adas won the top-seeded match 8-2.
Tori Simmons and
Alicia Barbaroux moved into the No. 2 doubles match for the first time in their career and won 8-4 to complete the sweep.
In singles action, Tarleton's No. 3-6 players pushed the TexAnns into the win column.
Ferraro-Adas and Simmons swept their way to wins in the No. 5 and 6 matches, respectively, while Elward took care of the No. 4 match 6-2, 6-1. Barbaroux secured the team's seventh point of the day with a 6-4, 6-2 win in the No. 3 match.
