Box Score STEPHENVILLE – No. 13 Tarleton remains undefeated in the Lone Star Conference after making quick work of Eastern New Mexico in a Friday night sweep (25-12, 25-12, 25-21) in the Wisdom Volleyball Gym.
Tarleton extends its winning streak to 19 straight matches with the win and is now 20 games over .500 with a 22-2 record overall and 14-0 in the LSC. It's also the 14
th sweep of the season for the TexAnns.
The TexAnns hit .298 for the match and held Eastern New Mexico (8-15, 6-9) to a .113 hitting percentage.
Amber Strange led all players with 10 kills on a .600 hitting percentage while
Hannah McManus added nine kills and
Lauren Kersey and
Tatyana Tuialii-Umi each recorded six.
Adrianna Knutson had 13 digs and
Adriana Darthuy posted 12 digs to lead the TexAnn defense.
Blanca Izquierdo led all players with 21 assists.
Tarleton led from start to finish in the opening set, quickly grabbing a double-digit lead at 17-7. Two straight kills from
Carmen Kinsey made it 20-9, while Tuialii-Umi and McManus had the final points of the set for the TexAnns to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
The TexAnns came out in the second set with an even quicker start leading 12-2 behind a pair of kills from Strange, Kersey, and McManus. From there, Tarleton never let the Greyhounds to within a nine-point game. The lead grew to as much as 14 on a kill from
Brianna Acker and
Sofia Tonga powered down the final point with a kill for a 2-0 lead.
Eastern New Mexico took its first lead of the match in the third set, grabbing a 7-4 advantage to start. Tarleton scored the next five points to go back on top and never trailed again. Eastern New Mexico would get to within two late in the set at 22-20 and 23-21, but Tarleton had an answer each time with McManus and Darthuy countering with kills to stay out in front. McManus had the final point of the match to complete the sweepl.
Tarleton will take on West Texas A&M on Saturday, Oct. 20 at noon in the Wisdom Volleyball Gym.
