NATIONAL SPOTLIGHT
Tarleton Volleyball will open Lone Star Conference play as the No. 11-ranked team in the nation after the poll was released by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA). Tarleton has now been ranked in 32 straight AVCA polls dating back to the final poll of the 2016 season.
The Texans, who were picked as the preseason favorites in the Lone Star Conference, are the highest ranked LSC team in the AVCA poll this week.
THE OPPONENT: ST. EDWARD'S
The Texans and Hilltoppers last met in 2016, where Tarleton swept St. Edward's at a neutral site game, 3-0. St. Edward's leads the all-time series 9-13, while Tarleton holds the advantage at home, 5-2. The Hilltoppers enter the match 5-3 on the season.
THE OPPONENT: ST. MARY'S
The Texans and Rattlers last met in 2018, where Tarleton swept St. Mary's at home, 3-0. The Rattlers lead the all-time series 9-12, while the Texans hold the advantage in Wisdom, 5-3. St. Mary's enters the match 6-2 on the season.
KERSEY EARNS FIRST CAREER LSC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Lauren Kersey was an offensive force for the Texans during their trip to the elite Colorado Premier Challenge in Denver last week and her efforts were enough to garner the league's Offensive Player of the Week award. Kersey led Tarleton with 58 kills in four matches in Colorado where the Texans went 2-2 with wins over host Metro State and No. 12 Central Missouri.
SCHINDLER WINS 300TH MATCH
With Tarleton's win over No. 12 Central Missouri, head coach
Mary Schindler has now won 300 career games — extending her Tarleton all-time record. Schindler's 300 wins are more than every previous Tarleton Volleyball coach's win total combined (193).
SAME CONFERENCE, NEW OPPONENTS
The Lone Star Conference expanded to 19 member institutions earlier this summer with the addition of eight new teams, including St. Edward's University and St. Mary's University. The LSC is officially the largest conference in NCAA Division II.
UP NEXT FOR TARLETON
The Texans are back on the road again for a pair of LSC match-ups. Tarleton will first battle Texas A&M-Kingsville in Kingsville on Friday, Sept. 27 at 6 p.m. and then take on Texas A&M-International in Laredo on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
