No. 10 Tarleton to open athletics season at home with premier Texan Invitational

AT A GLANCE
Due to Hurricane Dorian on the east coast, the Hyatt Place Cash at the Beach in West Palm Beach, Florida was cancelled. Instead, the Texans will host their own tournament, the Texan Invitational, and invited several of the teams scheduled to play in Florida to open up the 2019 season. The Texan Invitational will feature five nationally-ranked teams, including No. 10 Tarleton, in the six-team, three-day premier tournament.

NATIONAL SPOTLIGHT
Tarleton Volleyball will officially open the 2019 season ranked No. 10 in the nation after the AVCA announced its preseason top 25 poll. It's the first time in program history that the Texans will being a season ranked in the top 10. The Texans finished last season ranked No. 9 in the AVCA final poll, which was the highest ranking in Tarleton Volleyball history. The Texans, who were picked as the preseason favorites in the Lone Star Conference, are the highest ranked LSC team in the AVCA poll.
 
TOP-25 MATCHUPS
Tarleton is set to face five teams ranked in the AVCA preseason poll, including three of their first four games of the 2019 season. The Texans will play No. 15 Cal State-LA, No. 14 Rockhurst, and No. 2 Cal State-San Bernardino. The Texans are also slated to play No. 9 Southwest Minnesota State at the Colorado Premier Challenge next Friday.
 
TEXANS PREDICTED TO WIN LSC, AGAIN
Tarleton Volleyball has been picked to win its third straight Lone Star Conference championship after the league announced its annual preseason rankings. The Texans were the clear favorites in the preseason poll, collecting 39 of the 45 first-place votes in the poll for 802 total points. The LSC preseason poll is voted on by conference head coaches, sports information directors, and media members.
 
RETURNING EXPERIENCE
The Texans return seven players who played over 100 sets last season – including three all-conference players – in Adriana Darthuy, Kayla Brannon, Lauren Kersey, Amber Strange, Michaela Rodriguez, Sofia Tonga, and Tatyana Tuialii-Umi.
 
DARTHUY ALREADY RACKING UP ACCOLADES
Senior outside hitter Adriana Darthuy was picked as the preseason Offensive Player of the Year. The AVCA All-American from Marseille, France led the Texans with 370 kills last season.
 
TARLETON ATHLETICS UNITE AS TEXANS
Following a unanimous decision by the Student Government Association and the President's Cabinet, all of Tarleton's 14 intercollegiate athletic teams will unite under the Texans name beginning in August.
 
2018 SEASON RECAP
In the 2018 season, the Texans won a record 24 consecutive matches, won their third Lone Star Conference title in four years, and hosted the South Central Regional Championship Tournament for the first time en route to the first regional championship in program history. The Texans won a school-record 32 games in 2018.
