ABOUT THE MATCHUP
  • This is the third straight year Tarleton is playing an SEC team on the road. The Texans played at Arkansas to open the 2021-22 season, and at Florida in 2020-21.
  • Vanderbilt is off to a 3-0 start for the first time since 2014-15. They've played one home game thus far, an 81-51 win against Samford on Nov. 10.
  • Last year, Vanderbilt made its first postseason appearance since 2014. The Commodores reached the third round of the Women's NIT, their longest postseason run since 2013.

QUICK HITS
  • The Texans are 2-0 for the first time in their NCAA Division I era. The last time Tarleton started 3-0 was in 2019-20, a 4-0 start.
  • Tarleton has won their first two games by a combined 77 points, an average 38.5 point margin of victory. That's the 24th largest average margin of victory across all of NCAA Division I. In Tarleton's season opener, they drilled by 50, their largest season-opening win in 18 years. In Tarleton's last game vs. UNT Dallas, they outscored the Trailblazers 49-23 in the second half.
  • All 13 healthy Texans have played in each of the first two games.
  • Through two games, Tarleton has forced teams to a .303 shooting percentage (33-109), the tied-31st lowest opponent field goal percentage in the nation. From two-point range, teams are shooting just 29.5 percent.
  • In the season opener, Teresa Da Silva recorded game-highs in points (20, 7-10 FG, 4-7 3PT), rebounds (seven) and assists (six), adding two steals and two blocks. It was the most points scored in a Tarleton season-opener since Kiara Wright dropped 32 points on St. Mary's in 2013.
  • Defensively on Wednesday, the Texans forced 27 turnovers with 21 steals, the most steals by Tarleton in a game in at least the past 10 years. The Texans had 46 points off of turnovers to ABU's seven off of their 16 takeaways. They also forced a 16-of-54 (.296) clip from the floor.

WHO'S HOT
  • Elise Turrubiates – In the last game, Turrubiates had a game-high-tied 14 points on 4-of-6 shooting, a team-high seven rebounds, plus two steals. It marked her first double-digit scoring performance at the D1 level after 14 such games last year for Frank Phillips College as a true freshman.
  • Teresa Da Silva – Da Silva leads the team in scoring at 15.0 points per game, making 10-of-18 (.556) from the field, 5-of-10 (.500) from three, and 5-of-6 (.833) from the free throw line. She has the tied-second-highest rebounding average (5.0), and averages the most assists (4.0 APG).
  • Tyler Jackson – Jackson has scored 10 points in each of the first two games this season. She has now scored in double figures in four straight games, and seven of her past 10 games, dating back to last season. She's also averaging 3.5 APG, 3.0 RPG and 2.5 SPG.

NUMBERS TO KNOW
48: Tarleton is shooting 48.3 percent from the field to start the year, the THIRD HIGHEST MARK IN THE WAC so far this season. At 81.5 points per game, they're sixth in the conference.

16.5: Tarleton has been hitting the boards early, owning a +16.5 AVERAGE REBOUNDING MARGIN through two games. That's the tied-26th best mark across all of NCAA Division I, and second best in the WAC (Southern Utah).

7: Tarleton's 2022-23 roster has a lot of international flavor, with seven PLAYERS BORN AND RAISED OUTSIDE OF THE U.S. on the team this year. Seven of those players each represent a different country; the U.K., Canada, Colombia, Senegal, Sweden, Bulgaria and Poland.

11: Like last year, Tarleton was once again voted to finish 11th (tied) in the PRESEASON WAC COACHES' POLL. They were picked to finish ahead of Seattle U, tied with Utah Tech. Last year Tarleton proved the coaches wrong by finishing seventh in the WAC and just 2.0 games from fourth.

UP NEXT FOR TARLETON
The Texans will return home for a non-conference tilt with the College of Charleston on Friday at 6 p.m. CT. Last year, these two battled in South Carolina, with Tarleton coming out on top 69-59.
