Wisdom Gym will be quiet this week, as Texan Basketball will be on the road against some big Division I names.

Men's Basketball is still down in the United States Virgin Islands, as they finish up the Paradise Jam against Drake on Monday in the championship game. They get a few days to fine tune their skills before they head to Kansas to take on Wichita State on Saturday. Texan Women's Basketball only has one game this week, as they head north to battle Nebraska on Tuesday.

TARLETON MEN'S BASKETBALL began the Paradise Jam with an 89-81 win over Belmont. The Bruins started hot early with a dagger three-pointer to jump out ahead of Tarleton 3-0, but this was the first and only time the Texans trailed for the remainder of the game. Sophomore guard/forward Freddy Hicks made his season debut against Belmont and was nothing short of impressive, as he finished with a team-high 26 points while adding eight rebounds, four assists and three steals. 18 of Hicks' 26 points came from the free throw line, the most in a game by a player since Tarleton became a Division I university. Other double-digit scorers for the Texans were Lue Williams (16 points), Shamir Bogues (14 points) and Jakorie Smith (12 points). Tarleton did not slow down in game two of the Paradise Jam, as the Texans toppled the ACC's Boston College Eagles 70-54 for the Texans' first win over a Power Five program in team history. Tarleton's defense was stout in the first half, forcing Boston College to shoot just 7-of-19, taking a 16-point lead, 35-19, into the break. They forced Boston College to a season-low 54 points and a season-high 20 turnovers. The Texans answered any adjustments the Eagles made at halftime, as they led by double digits the remainder of the game. Hicks was sensational again, finishing with a game-high 21 points while adding six rebounds, three assists and a steal. The entire Texan offense was blazing, making 23-of-45 (.511) from the field. This was the third straight game Tarleton has shot 50 percent or better. The Texans will finish the tournament against Drake in the Paradise Jam Championship Game at 7 p.m. on Monday. They will be back on the road on Saturday as they head to Wichita State with tip-off scheduled for 3 p.m. The Texans' next game will be Nov. 29 as Weber State comes to town. This will be a White Out game with free t-shirts for the first 500 fans in attendance.

TEXAN WOMEN'S BASKETBALL bounced back from an 84-48 loss at Vanderbilt with a huge fourth quarter in Wisdom Gym to take down the College of Charleston last week 82-72. This was a tight game throughout with 10 lead changes and four ties, but a 16-2 run by the Texans in the fourth to win that quarter 26-11 pushed them over the top. Tyler Jackson had a career-best performance all-around, finishing with career-highs in points (20), rebounds (six) and assists (four), to go with three steals. The other four Texan starters all finished with double-digit scoring, as Mayra Caicedo and Viktoria Ivanova recorded 16 points, Teresa Da Silva tallied 12 points and Nyajah Mitchels went for 10 points. The only scorer off the Tarleton bench was Elise Turrubiates, who had eight points, four rebounds and three blocks in 17 minutes. The Texans are back on the road and back to playing against a Power Five program, as they have a matchup at the Big Ten Conference's Nebraska Cornhuskers at 6 p.m. on Tuesday in Lincoln. Their next game will not be until Nov. 30, as they are back on the road in Macomb, Illinois, to play Western Illinois.

TEXAN FOOTBALL crushed Houston Christian to conclude their 2022 season, becoming the fourth program since 2004 to start their reclassification period from NCAA Division II to Division I with three winning seasons. The final score was 49-7 to push the Texans to 6-5 on their season. Tarleton's defense set the tone almost immediately, as Josh Kemp picked off the Huskies' quarterback and returned it 26 yards for the touchdown on the third play of the game. The Texans ended the first quarter the same way it started, as Donovan Banks returned an interception 30 yards for another touchdown, his second pick-six of the year and team-leading fourth interception on the season. Blaine Hoover and Bryson Collins each forced a fumble as well, giving Tarleton four takeaways on the day. The defense also held the Huskies to -21 rushing yards, which is not a typo, as well as six different Texans with a sack. The offense did their job just as well, as the Texans outgained HCU in total yardage 516-135. 309 of Tarleton's yards came on the ground, as Derrel Kelley III exploded for 239 yards on 24 carries and two touchdowns. This gave the Texans a 1,000-yard rusher, as this pushed Kelley to 1,004 yards on the season. Darius Cooper had another big day receiving, as he had six catches for 155 yards and a score, giving him 1,063 receiving yards on the season. Jaden Smith also caught his team-leading 10
th touchdown of the year in the game. Quarterback Beau Allen neared 3,000 passing yards on the year after passing for 207 yards and three touchdowns. This was his fourth 3+ touchdown game of the season, totaling 23 on the year, the most in the Western Athletic Conference. Tarleton Football will now look ahead to next season, which will be the final year of the Texans' reclassification period.
