QUICK HITS:

  • Tarleton men's basketball made program history on Sunday as they earned their first win over a Power Five opponent. During the second round of the Paradise Jam tournament held in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, the Texans trampled the ACC's Boston College 70-54 to reach the monumental milestone.
  • The Texans are currently ranked #7 in NCAA Division I rankings for turnovers forced per game at 21.4. Wichita State is currently ranked #18 in all NCAA Division I rankings for field goal percentage defense, holding opposing teams to 35.5% shooting across five games played.
  • So far this season, Wichita State is 1-0 against WAC opponents. The Shockers defeated the Lopes of Grand Canyon 55-43 on Nov. 21.
  • Tarleton is tied at #1 with University of Denver in all NCAA Division I rankings for most free throws made and attempted in a single game. During round one of the Paradise Jam tournament, Tarleton went 32-of-49 from the charity stripe in their 89-81 win over perennial powerhouse Belmont.

WHO'S HOT:

  • 2 Freddy Hicks: Freddy Hicks had a great weekend of basketball at the Paradise Jam. In the three games of the tournament, Hicks averaged 25.7 points (including a career-high 30 points against Drake on Monday night) and 7.7 rebounds per game. He was instrumental in the Texans' first win against a Power Five opponent in program history, defeating the ACC's Boston College 70-54.
  • 23 Jakorie Smith: Smith averaged 9.6 points per game during the Paradise Jam tournament and had a huge impact defensively for Tarleton. Over the three-game span, he grabbed 13 rebounds, four steals, three assists and two blocks.

NUMBERS TO KNOW:

  • 1: Tarleton's Freddy Hicks holds the top spot in all of NCAA Division I rankings for Free Throw Attempts in a single game. Hicks shot from the charity stripe 28 times in the Texans routing of perennial powerhouse Belmont in the first round of the Paradise Jam tournament
  • 16: The Texans earned their first win over a Power Five opponent in program history when they defeated the ACC's Boston College 70-54, A 16-POINT MARGIN OF VICTORY, in the second round of the Paradise Jam tournament.
  • 25.7: Over the course of his first three games, Freddy Hicks is averaging 25.7 points per game which would have him ranked first in all of NCAA Division I rankings if he had played in 75% or more of Tarleton's competitions this season.
  • 51: Freddy Hicks, having only played in three games this season due to a foot injury, has attempted 51 free throws in competition. That puts him tied for fourth in NCAA Division I rankings although he has played in exactly half the number of games as those ranked higher.

UP NEXT FOR TARLETON
