MONTERREY, Mexico – In just their second season of the modern era, Tarleton State Men's Golf is already venturing further than most, taking their talents south of the border this weekend.
The Texans are set to play in the Monterrey International Invitational on Friday-Saturday at Club Campestre Monterrey. The tournament, hosted by George Washington, will play a bit different than usual. All teams will play a true split between the two days, playing 27 holes on Friday and 27 holes on Saturday.
For Tarleton State, this is their fourth and final tournament of the fall. Playing for the Texans will be
Bladen Samaniego at No. 1,
Carson Gallaher at No. 2,
Cristobal Sepulveda at No. 3,
Max Bengtsson at No. 4, and
Alvaro Huidobro at No. 5.
Chandler Barch will also be playing in the event as an individual.
"It's been an amazing experience so far here in Mexico and hopefully we can finish the fall on a high note," head coach Chance Cain said. "We definitely haven't played up to our standards but have learned some valuable experiences along the way that should clean some things up. This course is pretty special and we're excited to go tomorrow for the first 27 holes."
Gallaher has led the Purple and White in each of their first three tournaments this season, averaging a 72.3 round score overall across nine outings. Along with Gallaher, Samaniego is the only other Texan who has played in every tournament this season.
Tarleton is one of 10 teams participating in the Monterrey International Invitational, joined by George Washington, Utah State, Yale, Howard, Loyola Maryland, Valparaiso, Idaho, North Dakota State and UTRGV.

After Mexico, Tarleton State will have three months removed from competition. They'll start the spring event slate at Rice's Bentwater Intercollegiate at Bentwater Yacht and Country Club in Montgomery, Texas, on Feb. 12-13.
