STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Tarleton Women's Basketball hosts its second Education Day game of the season Monday at 11 a.m. at Wisdom Gym against New Mexico State.
The Texans, who lead the nation in Education Day games with five, will play their fourth kid's day game of the season. Their previous Education Day games include at UTEP, at #4 Texas and New Orleans at home.
The game will be available to watch on ESPN+ and fans can listen to Clayton Neville's radio call on Tarleton Sports Network. Neville will have a 30-minute pregame show starting at 10:30 a.m. and a 30-minute postgame show will follow each game.
MATCHUP NOTES
- Tarleton and New Mexico State will meet for the fifth time in program history. The winner will take on the series lead.
- Tarleton will play in its fourth Education Day game of the season and host its second kid's game in 2024. The Texans lead the country in Education Day games played with five this year.
- The matchup is part of the WAC-Conference USA Challenge. Tarleton is 0-1 (49-52 at UTEP) against Conference USA opponents.
ALL ABOUT EDUCATION
- Tarleton State leads the all NCAA Division I Women's Basketball programs in Education Day games played this season.
- The Texans have already played three Education Day games this season (11/4 @ UTEP, 11/12 vs. New Orleans, 11/20 @ #4 Texas). They currently have a record of 1-2 in Education Day games.
- Tarleton State will play Education Day games at California Baptist (1/16) and play one more game at Wisdom Gym against New Mexico State (12/16).
- The Texans hosted the first Education Day game at Wisdom Gym in the Bill Brock Era against New Orleans (11/12). The game ended with a 57-48 victory in front of 840 fans, mostly kids from Comanche Elementary School in Stephenville.
AWESOME ACKER
- Sophomore center Faith Acker currently leads the Texans in double-doubles with two this season. Her most recent one came at #24 Nebraska (12/11) with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
- Acker had the first Tarleton double-double against a nationally-ranked opponent (#24 Nebraska, 12/11) in the Division I Era. Her 11 rebounds were the most by a Texan player against a Power 4 conference opponent in the Division I Era.
- She surpassed the 200 career rebounds as just a sophomore against LeTourneau (12/7), having 157 in her freshman season to average over five boards per game.
- She has blocked four shots in three different games during her Tarleton State career.
- Acker recorded her first double-double of the season against Delaware (11/29) with 17 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Texans to victory. This was Acker's fourth career double-double at Tarleton.
- She currently has the second-most games in the Division I Era with at least four blocks (3)
GOT THE GOLD
- Junior guard Karyn Sanford scored a career-high 14 points off the bench to lead the Texans in scoring at #24 Nebraska (12/11. Sanford also knocked down a career-high four 3-pointers against the nationally-ranked Huskers.
- She helped her home country Norway to the gold medal at the 2024 FIBA Women's European Championship for Small Countries. She averaged 10.2 points per game and 4.6 rebounds per game to help her country to gold.
- After transferring from UAlbany, Sanford competed in 28 games in her first season with the Texans in 2023-24.
