LAWRENCE, Kan. — Tarleton State Women's Golf finished 11th Marilynn Smith Invitational hosted by the University of Kansas at Lawrence Country Club on Monday and Tuesday.
Among a field of multiple 2025 NCAA Regional squads, the Texans finished 11th of 14th squads. The Texans best round as a team came in the first round shooting a 15 over-par, 299. The crew battled the weather conditions the entire day and had play suspended near the end of the second round leaving a few holes to play on Tuesday morning before the third round.
"It was a tough week as a team out here at Lawrence CC, as we are battling through some injuries and the tough conditions did not help," said head coach
Isabel Jimenez. "As a couple positives,
Lou Deltombe, had our best individual finish with 3 similar rounds throughout the tournament, our freshman, added one more under par round to her Texan resume, yesterday during the first round. We are leaving this tournament behind and looking forward to the next one."
Lou Deltombe paced the Texans for the first time this season. In each of the first three events, a different Texan has led the pack. Deltombe was consistent shooting a 75 in the first round followed by a pair of 76's in the final two rounds. The senior tied for the second most pars across the 54 holes, registering 39 par scores.
Gina Chen opened on fire and was tied for second among the entire field after the first round shooting a one-under par, 70. Chen was one of just 13 players to record an under-par round in any of the three rounds. She finished tied for 55th shooting 21-over par.
Darianys Guzman also tied for 55th with a 234. Guzman shot a 78, seven-over par in each of the three rounds.
Natalia Fiel Ros opened with a five-over par, 76. She finished the invitational tied for 59th carding a 22-over par.
Rebeca Fernandez rounded out the Texans finishing 76th, shooting 253.
Tarleton State will play one more time in October, once again in Kansas, but this time in Manhattan, Kan. The Texans will play on Oct. 21-22 in the Powercat Invitational hosted by Kansas State.
