Depadt’s top 15 performance leads Tarleton State Women’s Golf to top 10 finish at NCAA Waco Regional

WACO, Texas — Tarleton State Women's Golf posted their best team finish at an NCAA Division I Regional in program history, led by Louise Depadt's top 15 finish on Wednesday at the Ridgewood Country Club in Waco, Texas.

As a team, the Texans placed 10th overall after starting the regional as the 11th seed. After the first day, the Texans were in eighth after shooting 10-over par in round one. The Texans finished ahead of nationally-ranked number 42 TCU in the first round who ended the day in 10th. The Texans were paired with Baylor and Colorado in the second round where the Texans matched their first day total, shooting 10-over par. In the final day, Tarleton State was paired with TCU and Tennessee. The Texans shot 14-over par to finish in 10th place overall.

"It was a great ending to our season," said head coach Isabel Jimenez. " I am super proud of this team and the way they have fought during the season to get to where we are at today. To our seniors, all we can say is thank you. They have paved the direction into which this golf program is heading. They have raised the bar for the returners and new incoming players. We know their future is bright ahead."

The Texans' top 10 finish marks their first in the Division I era in program history. In Division II the Texans reached 11 NCAA Regionals. Out of their 11 appearances at the D2 level, the Purple and White won the regional seven times and placed in the top five in all 11 appearances. The team score of 37-over par is the fourth-lowest in program history at an NCAA Regional.

The Texans competed against two of the best teams in the region in the final round. Tennessee tied for fifth and forced a playoff with Tulsa for the automatic bid to the NCAA Championships. TCU's Kirstin Angosta shot four-under in her final round to finish in second overall and claim the NCAA Championships individual bid.

Depadt is the highest placing Texan individual at an NCAA Regional in the Division I era. The junior ended the three rounds tied for 15th place overall. Her one-over par, 211 is the second lowest total strokes by a Texan in any regional at any level. Depadt's one-over par is tied for the second lowest in program history at an NCAA Regional. Current head coach Isabel Jimenez holds both the stroke and relation to par record with a 210, six-under in 2016.

"Louise has played lights out for the past 5 months, overcoming a big injury in the fall and coming back like she never left," said Jimenez. "It's very special and takes a lot of talent to do that. She put up a good fight this week, within one of the toughest fields we could have had. I am super proud of her and looking forward to what's ahead for her."

In the Texans' first appearance last season, the Lusanger, France, native, led the Purple and White tying for 36th place. In Tarleton State's Division II days, 11 Texans have posted a total of 20 top 10 finishes at an NCAA Regional. In Division II, the Texans had six individuals claim the individual regional title. Jimenez was the last Texan to take the individual regional crown in 2016.
