Tarleton State Women’s Basketball celebrates NGWSD Thursday against Seattle U

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Tarleton State Women's Basketball celebrates National Girls and Women in Sports Day Thursday at Wisdom Gym when it takes on Seattle U at 7 p.m.

The Texans enter Thursday's game with a three-game winning streak and swept the games on its Utah road trip last week. Tarleton State won at Utah Tech 70-61 and defeated Southern Utah 74-53 in Cedar City two days later.

National Girls & Women in Sports Day is a day celebrating the power and potential of girls and women in sports. Tickets start at just $10 and can be purchased online. Tarleton State students, faculty and staff receive free admission.

The game will be available to watch on ESPN+ and fans can listen to Clayton Neville's radio call on Tarleton Sports Network. Neville will have a 30-minute pregame show starting at 6:30 p.m. and a 30-minute postgame show will follow each game.

  • Erasing the Seattle U's chances of advancing to the conference tournament, Tarleton State clinched a conference tournament berth last year with the win at Seattle U.
  • The Texans are three wins away from the Division I Era record for single season wins.
TERRIFIC TURRUBIATES
  • Senior forward Elise Turrubiates gave the Texans an added lift last week.

  • She added 12 points and led Tarleton State with eight rebounds in the Texans' 74-53 win at Southern Utah (2/1).
  • Turrubiates co-leads the Texans in rebounding average with 5.9 boards per game.
STRENGTH IN SENIORS
  • Tarleton State has a veteran team of eight seniors, the most of any team in the WAC.
  • The eight seniors have accounted for over 73% of the team's scoring this season, with five out of the top six leading scorers for the Texans being seniors.
  • A Tarleton State senior has been the leading scorer for the Texans in 20 out of the 23 games this season. A senior has been the leading scorer in every WAC game this season for the Texans.
  • The leading rebounder for the Texans has been a senior in all but one WAC game this season.
WINNER WINNER, RECORD BREAKERS
  • In its first season of postseason eligibility, Tarleton State is off to a historic season in its fifth year at the Division I level.

  • Senior guard Miannah Little set a new Division I record of six made 3-pointers against ACU (1/23) en route to a career-high 24 points. She earned WAC Player of the Week on January 27 for her performance.
  • On December 7, 2024, Tarleton State set a new Division I program record for rebounds with 59 in one game against LeTourneau.
  • Freshman guard Grace Booth's 13 rebounds against LeTourneau (12/7) set a new Division I Era program record for most boards in a single game by a Tarleton freshman.
