Former University of New Mexico golfer Luis Buech signs with Tarleton State Men’s Golf

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – University of New Mexico transfer Luis Beuch has signed with Tarleton State Men's Golf and will join the Texans starting in 2025-26. 

Buech, a three-time Global Junior Golf Tour champion, had a stroke average of 73.22 in three events in his lone season at New Mexico. 

"I am excited to have Luis join our program!," head coach Chance Cain said. "He's coming from a great program that is historically successful year after year and I know he will bring that first-year experience with him. Luis has a lot of firepower and he's just going to get better the more tournaments he competes in. He loves to compete, is very team oriented, and I know he is the right guy to help continue to build this program in the right direction."

The Berlin, Germany, native made his collegiate debut in New Mexico's second tournament of the 2024-25 season, finishing tied for 16th at the Papago Individual as an individual. His best 18-hole performance as a Lobo came at the Wyoming Desert Invitational with a 3-under-par 69 in the third round. 

Prior to coming to the United States, Buech had a successful junior career in Germany. He was the runner-up at the U18 German Championship in 2023. The Löwenrot Gymnasium product was also ranked 670 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings in 2022. He won the Atlantic Youth Trophy in 2022 and 2024 and was the Portuguese Intercollegiate Open winner in 2022. 

Competing for Golf Club St. Leon-Rot, Buech helped his team to back-to-back national championships in 2023 and 2024. After winning the men's amateur conference championship, Buech and Golf Club St. Leon-Rot advanced to the national championship and won it all in back-to-back seasons. He was also a Boys U18 National Champion in 2023. 

Tarleton State completed the 2024-25 season with three top 10 finishes as a team, five individual top 10 performances and 12 top 20 individual performances. The Texans finished in the top four as a team at the WAC Championship and had at least two top 10 individual finishers in the conference tournament. It is the second straight season Tarleton State has finished in the top four as a team and had at least two individuals place in the top 10 at the WAC Championship.
