Tarleton State Women’s Basketball’s Lutbert named WAC Newcomer of the Week

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Tarleton State Women's Basketball freshman center Elodie Lutbert has been named Western Athletic Conference Newcomer of the Week, the conference announced Monday.

Lutbert earned her first weekly honor from the WAC and picked up Tarleton State's second honor of the season. She is the first WAC Newcomer of the Week from Tarleton State since teammate Shadasia Brackens won the award on Dec. 22, 2025.

The 6-foot-6-inch freshman center posted back-to-back double-doubles against the WAC's top two teams: ACU (16 pts, 13 reb) and CBU (15 pts, 13 reb). Lutbert also helped the Texans overcome an 18-point deficit on Saturday against Southern Utah for a win, the largest comeback from Tarleton State Women's Basketball in the Division I era. She knocked down the go-ahead jumper with 55 seconds left against Southern Utah, helping the Texans to the win.

Lutbert is having one of the best freshman seasons in program history. She is the first freshman in the Division I era and the first since 2010-11 to have at least four double-doubles in a single season (Kiara Wright, 4). Having double-doubles between Nov. 25-Dec. 7, Lutbert became the first Tarleton State freshman since 1985-86 to have three straight games with a double-double (Kelly Hubbard, Nov. 12-20).

Leading the Texans with eight double-digit rebounding games, Lutbert matched the Division I era program record for most rebounds in a game with 16 against UTA (1/21). Four more rebounds would put her in the top five for most single season rebounds in the Division I era.

The Sainte-Luce, Martinique, native is currently second in the Division I era in single season blocks and moved into a tie for seventh on the program's all-time list this past week. She needs one more block to match Macie Perkins (1989-90) for sixth on the all-time list. Blocking five shots on multiple occasions, Lubert is the first Tarleton State freshman since 2005 to have five blocks in a single game (TaNesiah Leak). She was the first Texan in the Division I era and first since 2009 (5, JoAnne Jones vs. Texas A&M-Kingsville) to block five shots in a conference opener when she had five blocks in a win against UTA (12/29). She is also the first Texan since 2021-22 to have multiple five block games in a season (Seynabou Thiam, 4).

Lutbert was the last player to join the Texans, signing with Tarleton State in August. She previously represented Team France at the 2023 FIBA U18 Women's European.

Tarleton State returns to the EECU Center next Saturday, February 14 against in-state rival Abilene Christian at 2 p.m. Tickets can be purchased by visiting TarletonSports.com/Tickets or by visiting the EECU Center Box Office.
