It marks the first time in the D1 era that the Texans compete outside of the contiguous 48 states. The last time the Texans played outside of the contiguous 48, the Texans also traveled to Puerto Rico. In 2017, the Purple and White competed in the Illinois-Springfield Invitational in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico. The squad claimed the individual title shooting 15-over pair and had all five golfers in the top 10. Current head coach Isabel Jimenez served as a graduate assistant for that team.

The Texans will be competing with a four-woman squad consisting of Lou Deltombe, Louise Depadt, Gina Chen and Darianys Guzman. Guzman will play collegiate golf near in Puerto Rico where she is from for the first time in her career. She will return to the course after missing the last event of the fall and first event of the spring due to injury.

Last time out, the Purple and White placed sixth at the Texas Golf Throwdown hosted by Sam Houston. The team finished sixth overall and had the second best first round in the entire field. Deltombe earned her fifth top 20 finish of the season and her second consecutive to begin the spring slate. Depadt shot the best single round for the Texans a 73 on her final round to finish in 21st.

Depadt earned the individual title in the Texans' first event of the spring, shooting a program 54-hole record, 205. She also broke her own individual single round record with a eight-under, 64. Depadt returned to the course this spring after missing the final four events of the fall due to injury.

The Texans will be right back in action when they return from Puerto Rico. The Purple and White will compete at Houston Christian in the Riverbend Collegiate on March 9-10. The 54-hole event will be held at the Riverbend Country Club.
