Tarleton State Women’s Golf led by pair of top 20 finishes at Puerto Rico Iguana Invitational

HUMACAO, Puerto Rico — Tarleton State Women's Golf placed two individuals in the top 20 as part of a seventh-place team finish in the program's first trip outside the contiguous United States since 2017 at the Puerto Rico Iguana Invitational at Palmas Del Mar Golf Club.

The first three-day event of the season for the Texans wrapped up on Thursday afternoon with a separate round each day for the only time this season before the WAC Championship. The Texans placed seventh in the field shooting 913, 49 over-par.

The Texans were led by a pair of top 20 performances by Louise Depadt and Gina Chen. Depadt placed in the top 20 for the second time this spring tying for 14th place. Chen earned her first top 20 finish of the spring slate and her second as a Texan. Depadt opened with a 78 before finishing in the final two rounds with an even, 72 and two-over par, 74. She carded a 224, eight-over par to finish in a tie for 18th overall. Chen had one of her most consistent second and third rounds of the season closing on a 72 and 74 as well. She finished nine-over par in a tie for 18th place.

With just four golfers competing for the Texans, Darianys Guzman held the Texans third-best finish tying for 31st. She carded a pair of four-over 76's with her first 76 the best Texan score in the first round. Her second round of 79 led her to a 231, 15-over par finish. Lou Deltombe opened with a 77 and closed with a 76 and shot an 80 on her second round. Deltombe tied for 35th overall with a 17-over, 233.

Georgia State won the team title shooting a 13-over par. They clipped Central Arkansas by three strokes who finished in second at 16-over. Arkansas State finished third, shooting 20-over par. Central Arkansas' Alethea Paige Gaccion and Georgia State's TK Kongthong tied for the individual crown shooting two-under par. Third-place finisher Francesca Pompa of Tulane was the only other to end the three days even or under par shooting an even par, 216.

The Texans will be right back in action when they return from Puerto Rico. The Purple and White will compete at Houston Christian in the Riverbend Collegiate on March 9-10. The 54-hole event will be held at the Riverbend Country Club.
