Tarleton State Women’s Golf wins back-to-back WAC Women’s Golf Championships

Depadt claims back-to-back WAC Individual Title

MCKINNEY, Texas — Tarleton State Women's Golf clinched their second-consecutive WAC Women's Golf Championship winning by 11 strokes at the 2026 WAC Championship at The Clubs of Stonebridge Ranch Hills Course on Wednesday evening. Louise Depadt closed her three days with a great final round to claim back-to-back WAC Individual Championships.

Tarleton State pulled off an improbable comeback after ending the first round in fourth place. The Texans improved by 17 strokes in their second round to tie Abilene Christian for first heading into the final day. After the first nine holes, the Texans led by two and saw their lead increase in the back nine to 11 to claim the back-to-back title. As the WAC Champion, the Tarleton State Texans earn an automatic bid to their second-straight NCAA Regional. The Texans will await their destination they will compete in by tuning into the selection show at 2 pm on Wednesday, April 29th.

"I am super proud of the team and how they competed for the past two days," said head coach Isabel Jimenez, "It took everyone's effort. There were many key shots and putts executed very well. This victory is definitely a big breath of fresh air. It has been a tough year, lots of up and downs, unknowns, and lots of hard work in between and it has definitely paid off. Being back-to-back champions and having defended our title here at home, in Texas, is the best feeling. Now it's time for some celebration and in a couple of days we start the grind again to prepare for the NCAA Regionals, for the second straight year."

Depadt led the Texans after the first day shooting a 74, two-over par to tie for fifth. After making just two birdies on the first day, Depadt poured in four birdies in round two, carding a one-under par 71 to be tied for second trailing the leader by just a stroke heading into the final round. In Wednesday's final round she tallied three birdies evened out by three bogeys to shot even par. She birdied one and bogeyed just one in the front nine to retake the lead early on in the day and never give it up. Depadt tallied nine birdies while sinking 35 pars.

Depadt becomes the fifth golfer in the WAC to win back-to-back individual titles and the first since Idaho's Kayla Mortellaro in 2011 and 2012. With Depadt's second title, it makes the Purple and White the ninth program with multiple individual championship titles. Tarleton State is the only current WAC program with multiple individual championships and one of four current institutions with at least one individual championship.

Lou Deltombe also completed a remarkable comeback to finish in a tie for second place. The senior started off shooting a four-over par, 76, in her first round. She then posted the second-best second round in the field to leap into the top five after day two with a two-under, 70. In the final day she shot one-over par including a statement-making chip in birdie on hole 17 to tie for second place overall. Deltombe tied for the most birdies in the field with 10, recording four on each of her first two rounds and two in her final 18 holes.

The Texans struggled on the first day of the WAC Championships shooting 18-over par. On the 11th hole, the four scoring golfers accounted for two bogeys and a triple bogey, their worst on the round. In addition, there was a pair of holes that three each recorded a bogey. After a rough start to the first round, the weather caused havoc on day two, delaying tee times nearly four hours. The first nine holes the Texans played, the skies were still pouring rain. Despite the rough start to day one and the unfavorable weather conditions, the Texans secured one of the best turnarounds in WAC Championship history improving on day two by 17 strokes. The Texans shot a one-over par, with 15 birdies. In the final round, the Texans also turned in the best round score shooting just six-over as a team. The Purple and White picked up 11 strokes on ACU in the final round who shot 17-over par.

Tarleton State becomes the sixth program to earn back-to-back women's golf titles in consecutive seasons. The Texans joins BYU (1991-92),  New Mexico (1993-96), Tulsa 1999-2005, San Jose State (2009-12) and New Mexico State (2014-17 and 19, 21-22). Tarleton State is now one of six programs to win multiple team titles. The Texans are the only current WAC school with multiple team championships as well as the only current WAC school to have earned a team victory.

"This program is growing, the stakes are high, and we are super proud to be able to put Tarleton State's name out there besides many other big, dominant schools, continued Jimenez. "We want to thank the WAC and their staff for all their hard work, and we look forward to continue working and supporting each other during the transition into the UAC."

Natalia Fiel Ros earned her highest finish of the season. She tied for eighth overall shooting nine-over, 225 on her three rounds. Fiel Ros tied for the third best second round on the second day shooting a one-under, 71. The sophomore started off with a five-over, 77 and closed with a 77 as well.

Gina Chen closed her 54 holes with a stellar 27 holes shooting just one over. She finished her first WAC Championship with an even par, 72, in her final round. Chen started off with an eight-over, 80, and five-over 77, in her first two rounds. She ended at 13-over par in a tie for 14th place overall. Darianys Guzman placed 29th overall in her final WAC Championship. The senior shot a pair of eight-over rounds after starting with a seven-over, 79.

After earning the WAC automatic bid to the NCAA Championships by winning the WAC Championship, the Texans will make its second consecutive NCAA Regional appearance. The Texans will find out their fate on Wednesday, April 29, with the 2026 NCAA regional selection show. The regionals will be from May 11-13 at one of six locations. Last year the Texans were sent to Texas Tech, this year the only regional site in the state of Texas is Waco, hosted by Baylor.
