ABILENE - The Tarleton women's tennis team competed at the ITA Regional Championships this past weekend, in both singles and doubles action.
Advancing the furthest of any of the TexAnns,
Alicia Perez won her first round match up with Gretchen Trautman of Incarnate Word (4-6, 7-6, 10-4), before defeating Morgan Rainey of Washburn in the second round (6-4, 6-0). Perez was then cut down in the quarterfinals by top-seeded Jaclyn Walker of Abilene Christian (6-1, 7-5).
Also in singles action for Tarleton was
Adriana Jaskova, who cruised through her first round meeting with Alexi Bartek of NW Missouri State (6-1, 6-0). She was defeated in the second round by Elizabeth Abramovic of Central Oklahoma (6-4, 6-4).
Melanie Barnes won her first round match up with Mary Bain of St. Edward's (6-3, 6-1), before falling to Emily Conrad from Abilene Christian (4-6, 6-0, 10-5).
Silvia Nieva also competed at regional's, but lost her first round match with Micah Hermsdorf of ACU (6-1, 6-0).
In doubles play,
Mariana Freitas and
Alicia Perez dropped their opening round match to Lacy Caldwell and Julia Shviado of Central Oklahoma (3-6, 6-1, 10-4).
Melanie Barnes and
Adriana Jaskova battled through their first round victory with Briando Navarro and Lorena Rebolledo of Incarnate Word (6-2, 7-6), but eventually fell in a second-round heartbreaker to the second-seeded Amanda Moberg-Julia Puckhaber duo from Cameron (6-4, 3-6, 10-7).
That completes the 2010 individual campaign for the TexAnns, as Tarleton's women's tennis team returns to action in the Spring of 2011. Check Tarleton's website in the future for next year's schedule.
