STEPHENVILLE - Rivalry week in the Lone Star Conference is back, and this year it puts Tarleton (11-5, 8-0) against the struggling Texas A&M Commerce Lions (1-13, 0-8) for back-to-back games beginning in Commerce Wednesday.
This marks the 36th meeting between these two teams dating back to 1981 and Tarleton leads the series 19-16 and has own the last games.
The TexAnns are riding an eight-game winning streak and are fresh off a 90-point effort on the road at Abilene Christian Saturday, marking the first time since Feb. 1, 1994 that Tarleton has scored at least 90 points on the road.
The offensive explosion of late is due, in large part, to the breakout play of a trio of sophomores: Peyton Adamson, Kiara Wright and Shanae Lowrance.
Adamson, who was recently named the LSC Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season, has scored 51 points in her last two games and is 14-20 from the 3-point line.
She has also moved up to 11th in the conference in scoring after last week with 13.2 points per game.
Wright has also been a big factor in the paint since returning to the TexAnn lineup Dec. 19, averaging 14.8 points and 9.2 rebounds in her six games this season.
Lowrance has also exploded by scoring double figures in each of her last two games in addition to rising up to second in the LSC in field goal percentage at 51.5 percent (53-103).
Meanwhile in east Texas, the Lions are laying in the cellar of the Lone Star Conference with a winless conference slate and a 10-game losing streak.
During the drought, TAMUC has only cracked the 60-point mark twice and scored as few as 37 points in a 73-point loss to West Texas A&M Jan. 4.
The Lions are led in scoring by a pair of sophomores, Danielle Dixon (13.9 ppg) and Breanna Harris (10.3 ppg).
This will be the first meeting between these teams in Commerce since Jan. 9, 2009 and the TexAnns are just 7-10 inside The Field House.
