Tarleton looks for season sweep of Kingsville, host TAMUK Wednesday

- Game Notes

STEPHENVILLE - For the fourth time in school history, and the second time in the as many consecutive seasons, the Tarleton TexAnns find themselves riding the momentum of a 13-game winning streak.

The TexAnns will go for 14 in a row - something that has happened only once before - Wednesday when they host Texas A&M-Kingsville at 6 p.m.

Tarleton is coming off back-to-back wins over the No. 2 and No. 3 teams in the Lone Star Conference standings and punched their ticket to Allen for their ninth straight trip to the Lone Star Conference Tournament.

In addition to the win streak, Tarleton also caught the eye of the national voters with these wins. The TexAnns received 21 votes to rejoin the national top 25 polls.

The Javelinas (4-14, 3-9), however, have suffered through another long season despite knocking off Incarnate Word and Eastern New Mexico to find themselves in the hunt for the eighth seed in the tournament.

Tarleton defeated Cameron 68-49 in Lawton last Wednesday and knocked off Midwestern State 77-62 in Stephenville in front of over 2,800 fans and the nation on Fox Sports Southwest.

Shelby Adamson led all scorers Saturday with 20 points in the game and became just the sixth TexAnn all-time to reach 1,400 for her career. She currently 24 points away from tying Misty Wilson for fifth place all-time in scoring.

She also passed Katie Crawford for fourth place on the all-time assist list and is six assists short of tying her former Tarleton teammate Sonya Sundberg for third with 415.

It was Adamson's defense, however, that caught the eye of the conference this week as the senior was named Defensive Player of the Week for locking down Nicole Pendarvis of Cameron to 0-2 shooting and three turnovers.

Meanwhile for Tarleton, Kiara Wright has also been making noise since her Dec. 19 return to the lineup.

Wright averaged 16.5 points per game against CU and MSU, including posting her third double-double of the season Saturday with 19 points and 10 boards against the Mustangs.

She was named the LSC's Offensive Player of the Week.

Meanwhile, Kingsville has struggled this season under first year coach Michael Trujillo, but has been upsetting LSC foes of late, including Incarnate Word and Eastern New Mexico.

The Javelinas are led in scoring by Inekka Stevenson with 11.3 ppg and Jackie Stanley with 11.2 ppg.

Neither Tarleton's Wright or Kingsville's Stanley saw any action when these teams met back on Dec. 7.

When these teams took the court in Kingsville in December, Tarleton won their fourth straight over the Javelinas and 13th of the last 15 meetings, 80-65.

Tarleton's Lisa Parker and Morgan Stehling led the offense with 14 and 13 points, respectively while Peyton Adamson (12) and Shanae Lowrance (10) also cracked double figures.

The TexAnns host Kingsville for the first of their three remaining home games of the season Wednesday at 6 p.m.
