Game Notes
STEPHENVILLE - The history-making TexAnns of 2011-12 have a chance to do it again Wednesday.
So far this season, Tarleton has seen numerous career highs, record-setting offense, and the fall of decades-old career marks.
When the team takes the court Wednesday at Kitty Magee Arena in Denton, however, they will have a chance to tie a record that only one other team in the history of Tarleton basketball has reached - 16 straight wins.
Having survived 68-64 Saturday in San Antonio against Incarnate Word, the TexAnns pushed their current winning streak to 15 games. Now, only Texas Woman's stands in the way of Tarleton tying the school record.
The Pioneers (10-10, 5-9) are coming off a loss to West Texas A&M Saturday and are barely holding their heads above water in the quest for an LSC Championship Tournament berth.
TWU is currently tied with Eastern New Mexico with a 5-9 LSC record, keeping them in the seventh spot of the LSC race. The top eight conference teams advance to the tournament in Allen at the end of this month.
The Pioneers were 7-2 when they visited Stephenville earlier this season, but lost 60-55 at the hands of the TexAnns which started a 3-8 skid for TWU.
They are led in scoring by Jessica Hanna with 15.4 points per contest, and also have Brittney Nazum (13.8) and Tiara Davis (10.4) averaging in double figures.
The TexAnns will counter with Shelby Adamson (14.3), Peyton Adamson (13.9) and Kiara Wright (13.4), who are scoring double figures.
In addition to the trio of double figure scorers, Shanae Lowrance's strong offensive play of late has moved her into the conference's top 30 in scoring and top two in field goal percentage.
Tarleton is 23-9 all-time against Texas Woman's, including the game this season, and 7-7 all-time in Denton. Tarleton has not lost to TWU - on the road or at all - since Feb. 16, 2008.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Kitty Magee Arena and everyone is encouraged to wear pink in honor of 'Play 4 Kay' night. The teams will wear pink to raise support of breast cancer and dedicate the evening to the late NC State women's basketball coach, Kay Yow.
