Last Time Out

Tarleton recorded a win over Wayland Baptist in the first regular season meeting between the TexAnns and Flying Queens since 1993 - when both schools were in the NAIA. Kiara Wright led the team with a double-double effort - 16 points and 15 rebounds - despite playing limited minutes in the first half due to foul trouble. Tarleton had three other starters in double figures including Shanae Lowrance (12), Brianna Bledsoe (11) and Peyton Adamson (10).

Last Year's Meetings

The TexAnns swept the regular season meetings against the Javelinas last season, including scoring a school-record for an LSC game with 102 points. Peyton Adamson and Shanae Lowrance cracked double-figures in both meetings last season, including 24 and 17, respectively, in the game at Wisdom. Adamson is averaging 18 points per game in her career against Kingsville while Lowrance is averaging 13.5 against the Javelinas.

Five-game winning streak

Following Saturday's 21-point win over Wayland Baptist, Tarleton pushed it current winning streak to five straight games. This marks the fifth straight season in which the TexAnns have recorded at least a five-game streak and the eighth time in Ronnie Hearne's 10 seasons that Tarleton has won five in a row. With one more win, Tarleton would record its sixth six-game winning streak since joining the NCAA in 1994. All of Tarleton's NCAA six-game streaks have come under head coach Ronnie Hearne. The school record for longest winning streak is 16, set from Jan. 12 to Feb. 25, 1991. The school record for longest NCAA winning streak is 15, set last season from Nov. 30, 2011 to Feb. 15, 2012.

Third guard's a charm

In the NCAA era, Ashmore is the first freshman point guard to win her first five games as the starter. Sonya Sundberg led the TexAnns to a 4-0 start as a freshman in 2007. Tarleton started its third different point guard of the season Dec. 1 against Texas Woman's as Morgan Ashmore earned her first career start. The TexAnns are now a perfect 5-0 with Ashmore at the helm. She is 4th in the LSC in assists with 3.2 per contest and 2nd in the LSC in assist-turnover ratio at 1.7. Prior to this season, head coach Ronnie Hearne has only started five players at the point guard position in a nine-year period. This season, he has started three.

Conference's top 2 scorers

Tarleton comes into the game with the top two scorers in the Lone Star Conference for the fourth straight week. Peyton Adamson remains the conference scoring leader by averaging 16.2 points per contest. Kiara Wright is second in the LSC with 15.4 points per game.

Wright becoming one of Tarleton's best

Despite being limited to just eight first-half minutes in her last outing, Kiara Wright grabbed 15 rebounds and now leads the LSC in rebounding this season at 13.0 boards per game. After seven games, she has 117 rebounds to give her 558 for her Tarleton career and is now 10 rebounds shy of passing Tina Tibbs (567) for 12th place on the Tarleton rebounding list. She is also 14 rebounds shy of passing her former teammate Brittnie Haley (571) for 11th place all-time. She is rapidly climbing up the indivdual rebounding lists. Her 378 career defensive rebounds have her currently in fourth place all-time while her 180 offensive boards are good for 10th place all-time, so far. (NOTE: Rebounds were not kept as a divided statistic at Tarleton until the 1987 season.) Wright has 20 career double-doubles in regular season and postseason contests and had scored 20 points five times. She has seven double-doubles this season.

Gonzalez leads the Javelinas

Breanna Gonzalez is the only Javelina on the roster to average double-figures in scoring this season thus far.

The senior from San Antonio is ranked 23rd in the LSC in scoring with 10.1 points per game and has led the team in scoring in three game this season.

Stuggling defense vs. powerful offense

Texas A&M-Kingsville comes into the game as the LSC's bottom-ranked team in scoring defense, allowing 69.2 points per game. They are also at the bottom of the conference in field goal and 3-point field goal defense, allowing opponents to shoot .436 from the floor and .363 from beyond the arc - while Tarleton comes into play as the second-ranked scoring offense (71.4) and top-ranked shooting team (.458 from the floor and .386 from downtown.)

Looking Ahead for Tarleton

The TexAnns will face Incarnate Word Saturday in a rematch of last year's LSC Championship rematch. The teams square off at 2 p.m. in San Antonio.
