LAST TIME OUT
Tarleton dominated in-region foe, Regis, from the opening tip in the final game of the 2013 Marriott Champions Circle Pioneer Premiere in Denton Sunday afternoon.
Kiara Wright poured in a career-high 35 points in the effort while grabbing 17 rebounds. Tarleton shot 51-percent from the floor on 32-63 shooting. Wright was 11-16.
SERIES HISTORY
Tarleton owns the all-time record against Texas Wesleyan 23-21, including wins in the last four meetings. The TexAnns are 15-8 all-time against the Lady Rams at home and have not lost since Jan. 2, 2001.
TOURNAMENT MVP… AGAIN
Just a week after being named the MVP of the Whataburger TexAnn Tip-Off Classic,
Kiara Wright added another plaque to her collection by bringing home the Most Valuable Player recognition from last weekend's Marriott Champions Circle Pioneer Premiere.
BIG THREE BRINGS THEIR TALENT TO STEPHENVILLE
Early on this season, Tarleton State has been led offensively by the scoring prowess of
Brianna Bledsoe, Kathy Thomas and
Kiara Wright. Those three have combined for 279 of Tarleton's 463 total points this season - accouting for 60-percent of the Tarleton offense. These three are the only TexAnns to record double-digit scoring figures in multiple games this season.
ELITE SCORING THREAT
With her 35-point effort against Regis on Sunday,
Kiara Wright has moved into 10th place on the all-time scoring list with 1,208 career points. She is currently 24 points behind Helena Smith (1,232) for ninth place all-time. In addition to being in the top 10, she is also the fourth-highest scorer in Tarleton's 19-year NCAA career. The only players with more points for the TexAnns in the NCAA are Katie Crawford (1,259),
Misty Wilson (1,440) and Shelby Adamson (1,544). Wright will need to average 16.8 points per game over the final 20 games of the regular season to pass Adamson and become the school's all-time scoring leader in the NCAA history. She will need to average 37.3 points over the regular season to pass Jennifer Washington (1,953) and become the school's all-time leader.
SCOUTING THE LADY RAMS
Texas Wesleyan has opened the season with a slew of upper-level competition, including games against Division II Our Lady of the Lake and Division I Incarnate Word. After winning their season opener against Oklahoma Wesleyan on Nov. 2, the Lady Rams have dropped four of their last six including two straight. Takoia Larry is the team leader in scoring with 18.9 points per game and is, by far, the leading the team in shots with 114 attempts which is 47 more than the next most on the team. She is also the team's leading rebounder with 8.4 per game. Kashay Barnes (12.5) and ToiEasha Cooper (10.6) are also averaging double figures.
UP NEXT FOR THE TEXANNS
