Dominant first half gives No. 24 Tarleton 40-point win over Texas Wesleyan

Tarleton gets points from 10 TexAnns, including career-high 13 from McGrath, in rout of Lady Rams

Shanae Lowrance was one of 10 TexAnns to score for No. 24 Tarleton in Tuesday's 80-40 rout of Texas Wesleyan.
Box Score STEPHENVILLE - In their first game as a nationally ranked team this season, the No. 24 Tarleton TexAnns (6-1) dominated Texas Wesleyan from the opening tip en route to an 80-40 thrashing of the Lady Rams.
 
Over the last two games, Tarleton has won by an average of 35.0 points per game and has outscored its opponents 170-100.
 
Brianna Bledsoe buried a 3-ball just eight seconds into the game to put Tarleton on the board and start the TexAnns on a 14-0 run to begin the game. The TexAnns held Texas Wesleyan scoreless over the first 5:15.
 
Texas Wesleyan got its first two buckets within a 34-second span but was shutout again for the next 10:06 as the Lady Rams failed to tack on point No. 5 until the 4:05 mark. Over that span, Tarleton built its biggest lead of the season at 45-4.
 
The Lady Rams outscored Tarleton 11-10 over the final 4:05 of the opening half, but the damage was more than done as the TexAnns went into halftime leading by 39 at 55-16. Tarleton is a perfect 6-0 this season when leading at the half.
 
Kiara Wright finished the game just one rebound short of a double-double with a team-high 13 points and nine rebounds. Raven McGrath also scored a career-high 13 points on 4-8 shooting from the floor and 3-5 shooting from downtown.
 
Kathy Thomas added 12 points – all in the first half – while Bledsoe and Karli Moore accounted for 10 points each.
 
Rounding out the Tarleton scoring was Shanae Lowrance (7), Morgan Ashmore (6), Meagan O'Dell (4), Courtney Randle (3) and Travanti Downes (2). Randle's three points is a new career-high in her young Tarleton career while Downes' fadeaway jumper was the first points of her collegiate career.
 
Tarleton shot 49 percent from the floor and 50 percent from 3-point land on 12-24 shooting. Tarleton won the rebounding battle 40-26 and the turnover battle 21-11.
 
After playing seven games since Nov. 13, the TexAnns will not play again until next Tuesday when they host Arlington Baptist Dec. 3 at 6 p.m.
