LAST TIME OUT
Tarleton overcame a slow start to keep their winning streak alive and remain unbeaten in Lone Star Conference action. Tarleton fell behind early but used a 7-0 run at the end of the first half to take a 33-31 lead over Angelo State into halftime. The TexAnns came out of the break firing on all cylinders and outscored the Rambelles 41-25 in the final 20 minutes to take the win. Tarleton got 20-point performances from
Kiara Wright and Kathy Thomas - it was a career-high for Thomas - and a 14-point effort from
Brianna Bledsoe in the win.
SERIES HISTORY
Tarleton and A&M-Kingsville have been perennial rivals since the TexAnns joined the NCAA in the 1994-95 season - they met only twice before Tarleton became an NCAA institution. The first meeting came in 1986 in Stephenville, which the Javelinas won. TAMUK won 16 of the first 18 meetings between the two teams but since Ronnie Hearne's arrival in 2003, Tarleton has turned the tables by winning 16 of the last 18 - including seven straight dating back to 2010. Tarleton owns the all-time series record 19-18 and are 8-8 all-time in Kingsville.
WRIGHT CLOSING IN ON 1K-1K CLUB
Kiara Wright enters her senior season as the school's all-time NCAA leader in rebounding with 989 in her career, which has her at No. 3 on the school's all-time list behind Tarleton's NAIA leaders. With 11 more rebounds, Wright will become the third TexAnn in school history with 1,000 in her career - joining Kathy Butler (1,065) and Jennifer Washington (1,680).
OFFENSE AT WILL
Despite not reaching their season average of 84.1 points in Wednesday's game, Tarleton's offense continues to be elite. The TexAnns scored 74 points on the nation's fifth-ranked defense Wednesday night, scoring 21 more points than Angelo State had been giving up on average (53.0 ppg). Through the first 10 games of the season, Tarleton has scored 838 points for an average of 83.8 points per game - making this the most prolific scoring team in TexAnn history through the first 10 games of a season. The previous mark was held by the 1983-84 TexAnns who averaged 81.2 points per contest in the first 10 games to open a season.
STREAK MOVES TO EIGHT
The current winning streak has now moved to eight in a row - which ties the third-longest winning streak of the Ronnie Hearne era. Tarleton has twice before won eight in a row, accomplishing the feat in 2009-10 and last season.
SEASON'S 1000th POINT
The first point scored in Saturday's game against Tarleton will be point No. 1000 for the season. The TexAnns enter this weekend having scored 999 points through the first 12 games. Only 15 teams in the nation have cracked the century mark and only five have topped it in 12 or fewer games.
SCOUTING THE JAVELINAS
The Javelinas opened the season with a 5-3 record, with two of those three losses coming to Heartland Conference power St. Mary's by a combined 11 points. Since then, Kingsville has played four straight road games and dropped three of them - the only win came at Commerce Wednesday night. Lindsey Mahone leads the team with 13.4 points per game on .444 percent shooting from the floor while Rosalie Cutri (12.4) and Ashley Viera (11.2) are also averaging double figures.
GUARDING THE PERIMETER
Texas A&M-Kingsville enters the game having attempted the most 3-point field goals in the conference (255). The Javelinas are 68-255 from beyond the arc for a .267 percentage, which is seventh in the LSC. Tarleton, on the other hand, is leading the conference and third in the nation in 3-point defense.
UP NEXT FOR TARLETON
Tarleton has one more home game before its return to Wisdom Gym - the annual trip to Wichita Falls. The TexAnns and Mustangs tip-off Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. in D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
